What if your next TV isn’t a TV?
The manufacturer specializing in projectors with Android TV has just launched a new model in its family, a team that makes a declaration of intent. It’s a massive projector, by all accounts.
While the majority of Xgimi projectors stand out for their ultra-compact and portable formats, this new model stands out for its gigantic measurements and weight. At 60cm long, 40cm wide and almost 15kg, don’t expect to be able to move this giant with ease.
While we don’t know the inside of this device, it is to be expected that this size and weight is due to a cooling system that can keep high temperatures at bay without excessive noise. Xgimi promises sound below 30 decibels, a sound level similar to the Halo we recently analyzed.
After all, emitting a strong light generates a lot of heat and in that sense at Xgimi they have set the bar to the max, up to 2400 ANSI nits. This figure should allow us to view all types of content even in well-lit rooms, a border that few projectors can reach.
Regarding the projection surface, the Xgimi Aura is a short throw projector. This means that in order to get a big screen, this projector needs to be close to the screen you are projecting. Being 10 centimeters from the wall we will have an 80 inch screen, while if we move it half a meter we will get a 150 inch screen (as long as you have enough space on the wall). The resolution of this device is 4K and it supports HDR10 and 3D video capability, not bad.
To complement this display capability, this model has four 15W speakers, signed by Harman Kardon, so a sound system shouldn’t be necessary to achieve a cinema experience. However, if you already have a system in your home, you can connect it via the 3.5mm jack output or its optical audio output.
Beyond the sound ports we appreciate an ethernet port. 3 HDMI 2.0 ports and 3 USB 2.0 ports. In this sense, we expected at least USB 3.0 ports, the clear aspect to improve.
The Xgimi Aura has a price of 2499 dollars, being the most ambitious product of the company. Whether he’s up to par or not is something we’ll know in the weeks to come.
