Working at Apple is the dream of many. and before that the goal was to work at NeXT, the company founded by Steve Jobs and to which we owe, among other things, the operating system that we all enjoy on our Macs. And how were the job openings at the company? The most interesting, really.
Yes, I accept, I accept, I accept!
We’ve seen documents from Apple’s early years in the past. Documents that often fetch huge sums at auction and that allow us to find out a bit more about the early years of the company. Today we are talking about a job offer addressed to a certain Dave by Steve Jobs.
The offer offers a salary of $80,000 per year, which, adjusted for inflation, is $191,000 today. So a salary of nearly 16,000 dollars per month. A most interesting sum that comes with the inclusion in the benefits of the NeXT employee health plan. Curious for the time, the smoke-free environment of the workspace stands out.
In addition, as an employee, you have the option of buying 5,000 shares of the company and receiving $5,000 signing bonus. All this before specifying that “NeXT does not offer employment contracts, and your employment with NeXT is ‘at will’ and may be terminated by you or NeXT at any time.”
Finally, and as a culmination of an interesting job offer just above the signature of acceptance of the position, one reads nothing less than “I accept this amazingly good offer!!!”. The truth, however, is that it is an excellent offer, at the time we did not know it, but after Apple purchased NeXT, many employees went to work for the company now established in Cupertino.
