In November, it will be one year since the premiere of “Napoleon” in cinemas, being one of Apple’s strongest bets in the cinema sector. And even though a good part of the public welcomed it favorably, another part joined the critics who classified it as one of the worst of Ridley Scott, its director.
Well, after being available on rental platforms in early January, receiving three Oscar nominations and being released in March on Apple TV+, here is now what it means for its director the definitive version of ‘Napoleon’. This is the version Director’s Cut and which adds nearly an additional hour of footage with never-before-seen scenes that were not seen in the more than two and a half hours of the original version in theaters and on Apple TV+.
“Napoleon: Director’s Cut” will be exclusively on Apple TV+
Although Apple TV+ has been producing films for some time, the truth is that at first it brought them all to its platform without going to the cinema. As other streaming majors did the same, they also decided to follow the same strategy: first in theaters and then on their platform. Recently, this has already happened with films like “The Assassins of the Moon” or “Fly me to the Moon”, which are still in theaters.
“Napoleon” was one of them and, as we already told you in the introduction, once it stopped being in theaters, it became exclusive to Apple TV+ without being able to be seen on any other platform. It can be rented or purchased from other providers such as Amazon Prime Video, but it is not included in any other subscription.
The extended version of “Napoleon” lasts nearly three and a half hours.
The original film is still available, being the same as the one released in theaters and running 2 hours and 37 minutes. Which is now available Starting today, August 30, it’s “Napoleon: Director’s Cut,” which runs 3 hours and 24 minutes thanks to the addition of deleted scenes from the original cut.
What to expect from this new version of “Napoleon”
Technically, it is not a remake of the film per se, but rather the same film. 48 minutes of new content added that had not been seen until now, but keeping the essence. A good way to see it from the point of view of its director Riddley Scott and valid both for those who have seen the original and for those who have not seen anything yet.
The argument, as you can imagine, is the same. Part of the premise is to show what life was like for Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, played by Joaquin Phoenix. Although the historical accuracy of the events has been questioned by some experts, this film attempts to depict the most intimate side of the French military leader, also remembering his origins and his accession to the throne.
Like the original assembly, it is available with dubbing and subtitles in a multitude of languageswhere we of course find Spanish from USA and Spanish from Latin America, in addition to English, which is the language in which the film was originally shot.
