The Google Pixel 8 Pro arrived with a new sensor under its arm, or rather under its flash: a thermometer. The problem is that In Europe it was only used to measure the temperature of objectswhich has significantly reduced its usefulness.
Body temperature measurement came to the Pixel 8 later, but only in the US. Now, nearly a year later, body temperature measurement on the Google Pixel 8 Pro and 9 Pro It is available in Europe and other European countries.
A Google Pixel as a thermometer
Measuring the temperature of a steak is not the same as measuring your body temperature, and the latter was only officially possible with a US Google Pixel, the only region where body temperature measurement was active on Pixels with thermometer sensor:the Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL.
If you owned one of these high-end Pixels, you wouldn’t be able to get the most out of it in Europe, as body temperature measurement wasn’t available unless you used a US SIM card to trick the system. Fitbit support now says the app works in all of these countries:
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, EuropeSweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and United States
In addition to being in Europe and with a Spanish SIM, you will need a Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL with Android 14 and firmware version UQ1A.231205.015.A1 or higher and the Pixel Thermometer app, available on Google Play.
If you meet all the requirements and body temperature measurement is already enabled on your Pixel, then you will see that in addition to being able to measure the temperature of objects, you can also measure body temperature by placing the phone on your forehead.
The measure itself guides you by voice during the measurementbecause you will not be able to see the mobile screen during the process. In our tests, the measurement was acceptable, with a margin of error around 0.5C compared to a traditional thermometer.
