I’ve been using a Mac since 2010. I started with a MacBook, which already had a trackpad. Until there, I’ve always had Windows laptops and desktops. So yes, I was obviously used to using the mouse above all, since trackpads on Windows are a terrible experience.
However, from Mac OS Mac has gestures similar to iPad to move, which is very difficult to match with a mouse. Having to search for keyboard shortcuts and options in a menu. As much as I tried, from Apple’s Magic Mouse to Logitech’s professional miceIn all of these cases, I ended up using the MacBook Pro’s trackpad and ultimately purchasing the Apple trackpad to work more comfortably with an external display.
Some of the reasons why I prefer the trackpad to a mouse
First of all, I think I should tell you what I usually do with the Mac: depending on the job and usage, a mouse or trackpad may suit you better. My use with the Mac is mainly write articles and edit videos and images
With a trackpad I can move so intuitively between different offices, which is wonderful. Just move four fingers From left to right, I move from one side to the other. What do I want to see on all windows? Activate Mission Control by moving four fingers up.
This with a Magic mouse It is moderately possible, but in a much more complicated way since the touch surface is very small. And in the rest of the mice we could at most configure a special button. For further actions, again we should resort to keyboard shortcuts or icons on the desktop.
Another of the main reasons why I choose a trackpad over a mouse it’s the zoom. For a normal user, zoom may not be important, but for someone who works with images and edits videos, it is essential. Scroll through an image or timeline
Additionally, each app zooms with a different command. In Pixelmator in one way, in Photoshop in another, in Final Cut in another… However, with the trackpad, I just have to put two fingers together and move them apart. Below I leave you a video in which I use the zoom and the movement of the spaces that I just mentioned.
Noise and movement around the table is something that overwhelms me when using a mouse
Yes, I know, there are silent mice. But I don’t like the Magic Mouse gestures. AND the Magic Mouse sounds a lot, both by clicking and moving within a table. I also tried with rugs and in this case it was a little toned down. However, for aesthetic reasons in my configuration added to the greater productivity it offered me, I ended up buying the Apple Magic Trackpad 2
Moreover, with a mouse I end up taking up a lot more space on the table. I work with a 28″ screen and I have the cursor speed at maximum to try to cover as large an area as possible. However, when I worked with mice, I cover more space and generate more movement with my hand and arm. Instead, with a simple swipe of my fingers, I can move anywhere thanks to its large surface area.
It’s expensive, extremely expensive, but when you work more than eight hours a day at the computer, it ends up being an investment. In my case, I tried and did everything possible to use mice. But I couldn’t be happier that I purchased the Apple trackpad.
Now I need to know your opinion, which I understand will be quite different from mine. We’re few trackpad enthusiasts, but we’re here and I want to know you exist.
