Apple continues to roll out new Android-inspired features in its software, but it always seems to be lagging behind.
Throughout the past few years, Apple has implemented new functions and features that its users have been asking for for a long time, especially in the area of personalization. I’m talking about functions that have been present in Android practically since “the beginning of time” and Apple has not deigned to bring them to the iPhone to its most recent stage.
In fact, I vividly remember iPhone users having to resort to external tools like jailbreaking iOS in order to use features like screen recording, home screen widgets , adding additional apps to the Dock, and more. Wow, what time these.
But despite the fact that Apple’s software engineers seem to have pulled themselves together in recent years, there are still Android features that as an iPhone user you wish you could use on my smartphone. Do you want to find out if they seem as necessary to you as to me? Let’s see!
Dear Tim Cook, I need these Android features!
Google search widget
The truth is that I’m ashamed to admit it because I’m sure for many users it’s real nonsense, but… the truth is that I’m fascinated by the design of the widget with google search box that every android user has
I find it so practical, so useful and so effective that I would dream of having the same design on my iPhone. But not at all, no, no. In fact, I wouldn’t want to see a design that’s exactly the same as what I’ve seen on Android. Apple should adapt it to the minimalist places of its iconic design of user interface elements of his favorite operating system to keep me happy.
Watch this video from the FácilEasyMoon YouTube channel to see the widget I’m referring to:
While it’s true that Apple very recently introduced home screen widget customization with iOS 14 and there’s an official Google search widget, it’s also true that… how to explain it , all iPhone widgets seem to have the same general building design. And although we can customize your theme (change the background image of the widget) you cannot reduce its size
Ultimately, the ios google widget has too large a panel It takes up almost half of the home screen. In Android, it is possible to install a Google widget that only displays the search box. Personally, I would like something like that.
Replace Default Apps
We continue with one of the functions present in Android that excites me the most. Default applications or the default applications of an operating system are those that run automatically when the user performs an action. For example, when you open a link to a webpage in WhatsApp, the system redirects you to Safari, the iPhone’s default web browser.
Apple started letting you override default apps in iOS a few years ago. But it only offers the option to replace the default apps Safari
That’s right, Android users have the appeased freedom to replace almost any default system application: camera, web browsing, messaging, PDA, calls… and the process to replace default apps is super easy and intuitive.
By the way, you can check out this video on Download Source to learn how to change default mail and web browsing apps on iOS:
And with that I don’t mean that I would change all the apps that come by default on the iPhone, nothing could be further from the truth, I just wish I had the freedom to do so or not.
Application Cloning
Another Android feature that I would love to have on the iPhone – although on this occasion I admit I’m not that enthusiastic – is app cloning. Did you know that Android users have the ability to duplicate your apps? In this way, they can create two versions of WhatsApp to use with a personal account and with a professional account, or with any other application in the system.
The truth is that it is very useful and if not ask our colleagues from Andro4all. The possibilities of this Android feature are endless. Apparently it is possible to duplicate applications via special apps from the Google Play Store and even via features built into the software like Dual Messenger (Samsung), App Twin (Huawei) or Cloned Apps (Xiaomi), among others.
There is no doubt that this is a rather advantageous and versatile utility, worthy of the complexity of such a dense and free operating system as Android.
Yes of course Each operating system has its pros and cons. vis-à-vis the competition. iOS and Android are the two best mobile software alternatives today and probably for the next 20 years. But each of them has many details to work out. After all, perfection in technological terms is virtually unattainable as technology advances by leaps and bounds.
That being said, I obviously wouldn’t trade the iOS operating system of the iPhone for any other. To Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. Although belonging to a more “closed” and “elitist” ecosystem, the elegance of the design and structure of this “guided tour” of iOS –in addition to its impeccable stability and its security shield– for me, this is something essential and the iPhone has marvelous functions that I can’t even imagine a life away from my iPhone. What do you think of this subject? Would you like to include Android features on your iPhone?
