Tapbots has done it again. That Twitter suddenly bans third-party customers from the service by blocking their access to the API and killing Tweetbot in the most unethical way possible? Well, no problem, we’re taking everything we’ve learned after ten years of working on this client and applying it to another one, Ivory, planned for Mastodon.
After a few days of development that must have been hectic, Ivory is now available on the App Store and he becomes one of Mastodon’s most attractive (or most) customers. And not only that: it could be the client that causes a massive shift of many users to this platform.
Everything great about Tweetbot, and now without restrictions
I’m not the only one to say this: Federico Viticci of MacStories himself says that the arrival of Ivory “marks the beginning of a new era” for Mastodon clients for iOS. Viticci is one of the most detail-obsessed reviewers of iPhone apps, so reading this in his own writing is no joke.
What came out today is a starting point with the basic features you can expect from a Mastodon client: multi-account support, different themes to change the look of the interface, display of statistics and the best of all : zero data collection. not even anonymous. Between the latter and the thoroughness of the Tapbots interfaces, Ivory is hands down my favorite Mastodon client for iPhone. And I’ve tried quite a few.
You can use Ivory with all its functions free for seven days if you choose one of the available subscriptions: 1.99 dollars per month or 17.99 dollars per year. That’s a price hike over Tweetbot’s subscription plans, but for the app’s orphans, that doesn’t seem to have been a problem given the rapid adoption it’s seeing.
You can download Ivory from the App Store, and you can follow the official Applesfera account on Mastodon right now.
