Apple went through a tough time when Steve Jobs passed away over a decade ago. Next, all eyes turned to Jony Ive as his spiritual successor. There were those who even saw him as a future CEO. Nothing could be further from reality.
Later, Jony Ive left Apple. And now three years have passed since he left. That’s all Apple has changed since.
Apple’s big successes after the departure of Jony Ive
Since June 2019, I announced his departure, Apple continued to work at full capacity. More so, judging by the dizzying release schedule we’ve seen. For starters, we had the iPhone 11 generation, which continued the three models introduced with the iPhone XS Max the previous year.
For the following year, Apple again rolled out the family of terminals, with four different models: iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. And in 2021, complete renovation
Apple has in many cases reversed controversial decisions of the past, particularly on the Mac, which is why many attribute this reversal to Ive’s departure.
Although perhaps, the device whose improvements later took it forward is the Apple Watch. Already the Apple Watch Series 5 introduced the always-on display, a function that radically changes the meaning of this clock, making it more alive than ever. And with Apple Watch Series 7, the limits of wrist-mounted screen size are explored.
During these three years, there were hardly any accessories or peripherals that were untouched. We have the AirTag, AirPods Max, and AirPods 3. Even the 2021 Apple TV 4K got a facelift last year, launching the HomePod mini that they would focus on after the original HomePod was discontinued.
Jony Ive and LoveFrom: the collaboration continues with Apple
Some interpreted Jony Ive’s departure from Apple as an honorable amends to all his work from previous years. We covered this in Jony Ive’s Deniers a few months ago, recalling how the genius behind Apple’s greatest hits and designs is still involved in the company. Because he has already warned that his involvement with Apple would not stop there. The next episode of collaboration between Ive and Apple
It’s no secret that I’m tired of managing teams, internal bureaucracy and weight of notoriety. He once said years ago that he was much more interested in the creative design process than the final product itself. Over the years, he made his views known to Apple management, who tried to accommodate Jony Ive’s wishes by making him its first design director. And, after his final departure in 2019, he was replaced by Evans Hankey as head of Apple’s industrial design team. In the same movement, Alan Dye became the head of human interface design at Apple. The rise of the two has also come a long way, as these two profiles were tasked with lightening Ive of the weight overnight a few years ago.
Under this new format, Jony Ive continued to collaborate with Apple in the development of new products. Although the exact list has not been released, we do know that Jony Ive was involved in the design of the 2021 iMac. Freed from corporate life and the sanctions of internal politics, he helped create the most ambitious iMac of the past decade.
Of course and as we said, LoveFrom allows Ive and company to have other customers. Other industries. Try leads. New challenges. This is how Jony Ive ended up partnering with Airbnb and also announced a collaboration with LoveFrom’s Ferrari. It is not known if they participated with another client, which is not excluded. The future is still open for design genius.
