Lenovo’s new beast is much more than a mobile for professionals

As part of CES 2022, Lenovo took the opportunity to present one of the most anticipated mobiles under the well-known Motorola brand. Meet the Motorola ThinkPhone, a new smartphone aimed primarily at professionals without ceasing to target other regular audiences for Motorola mobiles.

And it is that this device, despite having good specifications, stands out above all for its compatibility with computers and the additional functions that it carries for itself and without leaving out a layer that is practically pure Android. And in addition with the promise of 4 years of updates.

This ThinkPhone, although included in the Motorola brand, features a design inspired by Lenovo computers. Although if there is something to highlight in terms of design and functionality, it is that on one side we find a red side button very customizable, as it allows you to configure a multitude of actions so that they are available with a single touch.

On the front we find a 6.6 inch pOLED display in which he highlights his FullHD+ resolution and his 144Hz refresh rate. A panel that, at least on paper, looks very similar to other recent Motorola mobiles like the Moto X40.

As the brains, it has a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, which is Qualcomm’s high-end chip just before the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 introduced a few months ago. We do not know the reasons why the latter was not chosen, but we do know that the terminal integrates configurations of 8 and 12 GB of RAMas well as internal storage that can be 128, 256 and 512 GB without the possibility of extension by Micro SD card, as has been the custom for years in high-end mobiles.

Good battery specs which we find by observing its 5000mAh capacity, quite in line with other high-end terminals and Motorola. It is completed by a fast charging up to 68Wthough by cable. And it is that the wireless charging is limited to 15W.

Already in the photographic field we find a 32 megapixel selfie camera. As we walk around the terminal, we see a 50-megapixel main camera with OISas well as a lens 13 megapixel wide angle with a field of vision of 120º. The third lens is a depth sensor of which, at least for now, few technical details have been released.

Other interesting additions to the terminal are in its two-speaker stereo system with Dolby Atmosas well as the integration of a in-screen fingerprint sensor. Also at the level of resistance, it has military certification and IP68 as protection against water and dust.

Software is where the ThinkPhone shines the most

The first thing to note and that we already advance at the beginning is that this Motorola ThinkPhone comes with a layer very close to pure Android and that it is based on Android 13. They have also promised to offers 3+1 years of updatesbeing the first three with major Android updates and the last with security patches (the first three will also include security patches).

An interesting addition that already shows part of its target is that from the moment it comes out of the box, it already integrates with business management systems. Although it is the complete safety section what calls the most at this point and which, according to Motorola, will eventually reach other terminals.

The Motorola ThinkPhone includes different security systems in the firmware core and manages to isolate all sensitive data, including usernames and passwords. And this in addition to being something important for private consumers, it is even more important in the field of business.

The “Think 2 Think” synchronization system It is the absolute star in the functional section. It includes the different synchronization systems of the device, among which stands out a universal clipboard with Windows computers or power supply use mobile applications on the computer without the need to touch the smartphone at all times or to use it as a pc webcam in the purest style of the iPhone and its “Continuity Camera” under macOS.

And without depending on a system like Windows, the mobile itself has a desktop mode that works wirelessly, allowing you to connect the ThinkPhone to an external display and adapt the interface for the occasion. They will also have their own desktop apps thanks to an agreement with Microsoft.
