Elon Musk’s most little-known story is that of his family. And many did not know that they had twelve children from three different mothers. It’s true, the man behind Tesla and SpaceX never ceases to amaze us. If having to run five different businesses wasn’t enough, add in caring for over a dozen children. They won’t run out of money, that’s for sure. But to make family life easier, Elon Musk decided create your own version of a family commune in the heart of Texas.
A home for an unconventional family
Elon Musk is known for his futuristic vision and it seems his concept of family is no exception. The billionaire advocate for increasing birth rates
According to reports The New York TimesElon Musk invested around 3$5 million for the purchase of three homes in an exclusive residential area of Austin. The complex includes:
- A main residence of 1,300 meters squares with architecture inspired by Italian Tuscany.
- A second six bedroom house located just behind the first.
- A third property a few meters away, intended for Musk himself.
We see that tycoons are attracted to the Mediterranean style, since Steve Jobs also owned a Spanish-style mansion. For the moment, yesOnly one of the three women agreed to move into the complex. This is the mother who has the youngest children. On the other hand, the second mother is in the middle of a custody dispute, and The first said she didn’t want to know anything about her father.
The commune in the history of Silicon Valley
It is interesting to note that Steve Jobs also lived in a commune during his youth. In the 1970s, he joined a group of friends in an alternative community that promoted communal living and self-sufficiency. The place was called All One Farm and was an apple farm located near McMinnville, Oregon. It was founded by a friend of Steve Jobs when he inherited an orchard. This friend transformed the farm into a spiritual community where hippies, Hare Krishna devotees, and Hindus could live together and grow apples.
Steve Jobs visited the farm when he was young. He slept in a renovated chicken coop. His tasks on the farm/commune consisted of pruning and maintaining the apple trees. We believe that this experience prompted Jobs to name his company “Apple”
Although in a very different form, Steve Jobs and Elon Musk both experienced this lifestyle community. For Steve Jobs, it was part of his life and reflected him as a person. But for Elon, will it be an unsuccessful family experiment? He has two women to convince.
