The function of avoiding distractions while walking makes the jump from the Google Pixel to the rest of the mobiles equipped with the digital well-being of Android: “Look ahead” can now be configured from the phone settings. Once configured, an alert will appear whenever the system detects that the mobile screen is viewed in motion.
Every time we use the phone doing something else we put ourselves in danger due to the huge distraction of looking at the screen. Obviously, using it while driving is a reckless act that should not be done (and carries heavy penalties). And do not associate the cell phone with walks either: as many know, streetlights do not warn. Therefore, it never hurts to set up an alert like the one Android already offers natively.
Your Android can remind you to pay attention to what’s in front of you
The warning against distraction while walking was already present in the Google Pixel. Its specific name is “Look at the front” (“Heads up” in English). Once configured, and each time the mobile detects that it is moving, a notification will appear on the screen remember that on-screen distractions are dangerous.
Digital Wellbeing does not lock the phone if it detects movement, does not close applications or insist that the user turn off their mobile. The notification you send is minimal, the system only seeks to highlight the danger without alarming. And the alert works in two phases: first, a notification appears on the screen when the mobile detects movement; second, “Look ahead”, remember not to look at the screen while walking.
The show is coming to all mobiles with native Android digital well-being. To configure it, the following steps must be performed:
- Access your mobile settings and go to “Digital well-being”.
- Enter ‘Look ahead’.
- Accept configuration and motion detection.
- In addition, you can improve the accuracy of alerts using GPS. Activate this option, then choose “Always” in the Location authorization for digital well-being.
Whether or not you own a Google Pixel, you can now use “Look ahead” notifications on your Android thanks to Digital Wellbeing. On its own, that doesn’t do more than alert you to the obvious, but it never hurts to receive this notification since we’ve internalized phone use so much, we don’t even realize it when we have it in our hands.
