One of the best ways to learn more about Apple devices is to check out their screen vendors, and one of the best ways to learn more about Apple’s screen vendors is to check out what Ross Young has to say. And today, Ross Young claimed to have new data on what we’ll see in just over a year.
The leaker mentioned a number of devices that will receive OLED screens in 2024, from 13-inch MacBook Air. This year’s iPad Pro will also have OLED displays, ditching the mini-LED technology they’ve been carrying for a few years.
LCD screens will sooner or later cease to exist at Apple
Young mentioned this data in their Twitter, although reserved for its paid subscribers. It explicitly mentions 13 inches in the case of the MacBook Air, which already gives us a hint that Apple has no intention of changing the size of this screen.
What can change thanks to OLED technology is the refresh: a 13-inch MacBook Air with this panel could well rely on ProMotion (It remains to be seen whether the chip they would ship would be able to withstand this). This may be the beginning of the end not only for LCD displays at Apple, but also the beginning of the end for 60Hz in their devices.
We must also take into account that before 2024 comes 2023, the year in which we could also see new generations of Apple computers and tablets with LCD and mini-LED screens. But it’s abundantly clear that in Cupertino they all have their eyes on OLED panels after a certain point.
