Macs don’t need much maintenance, something that is inherent in the way they work and how they are designed. However, when they need it, it is important to use a good app for this. There are several options and one that stands out above the rest is MacCleaner Pro.
Five in one, an interesting and very versatile strategy
One of the first things that emerges from the app is that it’s actually six apps, the one that gathers and launches the others then five dedicated applications and specialized for different tasks. We met Cleaner and uninstall applications, an application to uninstall others and clean up system residues; Disk Space Analyzer Pro, this allows us to see which files are taking up space on our Mac; Duplicate File Finder Pro, with which to find duplicate files on our Mac; Funter, a usage statistics application and some file search functions; And finally, Memory cleaner to manage the RAM we use.
In addition to these five applications, we find MacCleaner Pro, this is what gives us centralized access to all the applications we just mentioned. The interface of this application is quite simple. A sidebar on the left gives us access to the different tools.
- Mac Speed: to review apps that start automatically, rebuild the Spotlight or Mail index, remove plugins and browser extensions, and view the processes that consume the most.
- Mac cleaning: to empty caches, install files, language files, downloads, mail attachments, screenshots, recycle bin, and purge recoverable disk space.
- Management of occupied space: to view the largest files sorted by generic files, documents, movies, music, movies, photos, apps, duplicates, home folder, and system files.
In the next section of the sidebar we found the five tools which we discussed a moment ago and which we will be running as standalone apps. Let’s see one by one.
- Cleaner and uninstall applications: an application with which we can completely uninstall any application or browser extension and we can also eliminate the garbage that some applications may have left if we uninstall them by dragging them to the trash. It also gives us the ability to review the apps that start with the system and the default apps for each file type.
- Disk space analyzer: with which we can see how many occupy the different folders on our computer. A fairly straightforward interface that, by means of a central graph and side list, sorts files from largest to smallest size and allows us to view or delete them in the Finder.
- Finding duplicate files: an application in which we can drag any folder on the system to see what duplicate files it contains. It is important to note that, if we scan the user folder, the application detects duplicate photos and the like from the photo library.
- Funter: a utility for the menu bar with which we can search for any file, show and hide hidden files, see the use of RAM and clean it if necessary and see the percentage of disk space that we occupy.
- Memory cleaner: with which we can see the use we are making of RAM memory at any time. Something that Funter already offers us, but what can we want, if we have to focus only on RAM, operate independently.
Questions, confirmations and full control of important procedures
Evaluating this type of applications is something that always has a subjective part, but in my personal opinion the choice of this option or others depends on three fundamental factors: reliability, number of options and control.
When it comes to reliability, MacCleaner Pro keeps its promises. I made sure that the deletions and edits were done correctly and although other apps sometimes left files for deletion, for example in MacCleaner anything that was marked is deleted. In addition, the application has a warning mechanism if, mainly for permission reasons, you could not remove
As for the number of options, those he offers seem more than sufficient. In addition, I think many of us appreciate the fact that work with independent applications depending on the task we want to perform. Especially for the apps in the menu bar that we’ll always have running.
Finally, with the control section, I mean the following: we eliminate, for example, important duplicate files or manage our photo library. It will depend a lot on each person, but I take special care with my photo library, I wouldn’t be happy to lose something that I don’t want to delete. In this sense, AppCleaner Pro is responsible for requesting, re-requesting and confirming all movements. Regarding deletions, the application places the files in the recycle bin, it does not delete them directly, so we have a lot of leeway to make sure that what we want to eliminate is what is eliminated. An important guarantee in this class of applications.
All in all, it seems to me that MacCleaner Pro is a pretty good option when it comes to doing some maintenance work on our Mac. One app, or five, however we want to look at it, to ensure maximum order and cleanliness.
We can buy MacCleaner Pro, which by the way is already ready for Macs with M1, from its website or download a trial version to see what we think.
