We’ve seen it in Concepts and discussed it: the look of System Preferences in macOS may have changed over the years, but it’s essentially the same structure as it was in 2001. And I won’t say that it’s a bad way to configure Mac settings, but they’ve gotten a bit dated compared to iOS and iPadOS settings.
But that may change in macOS 13. Mark Gurman’s sources seem to have taken up the gauntlet of what fans are asking and yes, maybe in this version we will finally see completely redesigned System Preferences.
A redesign that will depend on the developers
Apparently these preferences could now organize by app, as in the iPhone. Perhaps we will find ways to access Firefox preferences, for example, from this panel itself as well as using the Firefox menu itself. It would be a more integrated experience.
Of course, Apple would offer developers a way to create their own control panels via APIs. Another thing is that these developers take advantage of these tools and are encouraged to have this integration. We will see in less than a week, when the opening speech of WWDC 2022 begins. You’re betting on the name, by the way?
