The world of electric cars is becoming the fashionable sector, just like mobile telephony was at the beginning of this century. During the first decade, we saw the brands that currently dominate the scene, such as Apple, Samsung or Xiaomi, settle. The latter was a breath of fresh air when it arrived in Europe in 2017 with a clear proposal, very focused on the public of our country, and it seems that a Chinese brand of electric cars wants to take the same path.

We are talking about MG (Morris Garage), an iconic British company that was acquired by the Chinese group SAIC to give continuity to the original company, whose journey began in the 19th century.
The new MG’s similarities with Xiaomi are more than we might think at first, and as we learn more about the brand, the more it gives us the feeling that they can mean in the electric car sector the same as Xiaomi has done in the telephony.
The Chinese brand arrives in Europe
The first resemblance is in their ambition. Xiaomi and MG have made Europe a key part of their international expansion.
In the case of the automotive industry, it is no coincidence, since the original brand was British, and many still remember the cars of the popular company, even if in the last years of the century last, it was not one of the most well-known companies among the general public.
MG wants to enter a very interesting market like that of the old continent, and for this it makes decisions very similar to those made by Xiaomi.
price and quality
The most important thing about the brand is the price it gives its vehicles. If you look at any model, it costs around $10,000 less than some of its competitors, without making big sacrifices in design or functions.
It seems MG’s idea is to offer 90% of what its rivals are offering but at 60% of its price. This idea, that of meeting basic needs and others at the cost of not increasing the price, is something that in Europe is very much appreciated.
A good example is the latest model presented, the MG4, a sporty-looking vehicle whose price starts at 29,490 dollars in Europe, when its main rivals sometimes come close to 40,000 dollars. And that’s not counting the help we can get from the MOVES III plan and others.
And MG is the first brand to offer the assistance of the MOVES III plan to its customers.
physical stores
Another aspect that is very reminiscent of Xiaomi’s expansion is the opening of physical stores, in this case resellers. MG has more than 600 across Europe, and by the end of the year the brand’s dealerships will exceed 800.
This is a key point for many buyers, who want direct attention and not have to deal with mandatory online procedures.
Even Tesla is gradually opening centers of personal attention in specific cities, given that this comes to influence purchasing decisions.
To this we must add that MG offers a 7-year warranty in Europe, being one of those that offers the most.
Products catalogue
Although launching new mobile phones is not the same as launching new cars, MG designs new vehicles and plans to have no less than 10 different models in Europe by 20225. This is striking given that it currently only has 5 (including one in an electric and thermal version).
In addition, the firm offers models for all types of users, from those who want a very inexpensive thermal engine car to those looking for something sporty, passing through an SUV or a Station Wagon, the only car electricity in the world.
MG is perhaps one of the fastest growing brands in the electric car sector in Europe, and we’ll be waiting to tell you about it.
