Microsoft has announced that it will stop offering its app on the watchOS App Store.
Bad news for users Microsoft that they have a apple watch to his credit. Apparently, as 9to5mac reports, the company has decided to no longer offer the Microsoft Authenticator app in the App Store of the Apple Watch watchOS operating system.
The reasons? Everything indicates that it is a security issue. From Microsoft they intend to implement new security features in a new Microsoft Authenticator update in January 2023 for iOS, but watchOS does not offer compatibility
It should be mentioned that although the application is no longer compatible with watchOS, it will continue to be available in the App Store of other operating systems such as iOS 16 or iPadOS 16.
Microsoft stops using Microsoft Authenticator in the Apple Watch App Store
Microsoft announced the unfortunate news via a statement on its support website, answering one of the frequently asked questions about Apple Watch support.
“In the next release of Authenticator in January 2023 for iOS, there will be no companion app for watchOS because it is incompatible with Authenticator’s security features. This means you will not be able to install or use Authenticator on Apple Watch. Therefore, we recommend that you remove Authenticator from your Apple Watch. This change only affects the Apple Watch, so you can continue to use Authenticator on your other devices.
To say the least, this is rather curious news. We don’t know what kind of conversations took place between Apple and Microsoft about this, or if they actually took place.
What we do know is that Microsoft seems to have thrown in the towel when it comes to its app. Authenticator for Apple Watch and don’t want to develop the tools needed to support watchOS. And from the Apple Watch software engineering sector, they shouldn’t be very ready for the job either.
If you are unfamiliar with the Microsoft Authenticator app, it is a security tool that allows you to use a two-step verification protocol in order to connect to a user account of the various Microsoft services.
Microsoft Authenticator is available for free in the App Store for iOS, iPadOS and (until January 2023) watchOS.
What do you think of this news about Microsoft and its Authenticator application? Have you ever used this app on your Apple Watch?
