2023 maybe the year folding cell phones finally take off. Almost every company has entered the pool that Samsung has been dominating for a few years and we see such exciting proposals as the Honor Magic Vs, Huawei Mate X3, Oppo Find N2 Flip and the recently introduced Google Pixel Fold.
Now, and although there was a leak a few hours ago, Motorola officially introduced its Motorola Razr 40 Ultra and the Razr 40, two clamshell foldable phones that come with very different approaches: one wants to have the best external display in a foldable of its kind, the other to be the most affordable foldable phone. Let’s see all its features.

Motorola Razr 40 Ultra: a game-changing external screen
Let’s start talking about Motorola’s crown jewel. The Motorola Razr already has two versions behind it (if we only consider the foldable screen models, of course) and the concept has evolved little over the years. They always had a large external screen, but they were very similar to each other.
With the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, the company wants to shake things up with a very large external display. Actually, is the largest to date in a collapsible shell By having a diagonal of 3.6 inches (higher than the 3.26 inches of the Oppo Find N2 Flip) and a 1:1 aspect ratio that allows very comfortable use.
The resolution is 1066 x 1056so the pixel density is huge and it has a rate of 144Hz refresh rate, 1100nits brightness and support for HDR10+ content. Wow, th at’s a decent screen.
To take advantage of this display, the Motorola software created with Google allows some apps to run as widgets, but we can also use others – Google Maps, for example – as if it were the internal screen. For actions like looking at the address or replying to messages, the promise is that we will have to open the terminal less.
However, When we have to display the mobile we will see a 6.9 inch pOLED panel. The resolution is FullHD+ with a density of 433 pixels per inch, a very long aspect ratio of 22:9, a maximum brightness of 1,400 nits and a refresh rate of up to 165 Hz.
At the hardware level, we have the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 accompanied by 8 or 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, as well as 256 or 512 GB of storage with the UFS 3.1 standard. The battery, meanwhile, is 3,800 mAh with 30W wired charging and 5W wireless charging.
In the cameras we find a modest configuration. The main sensor has 12 megapixels and an f/1.5 aperture. We have to wait for the analysis of the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra to see how the performance is, but it seems that the external screen has conditioned the size of the sensor and the lenses. Of course, it is optically stabilized.
It is accompanied by a 13-megapixel f/2.2 wide-angle and inside we have a 32-megapixel f/2.4 camera.
Motorola Razr 40: an air is given to the Galaxy Z Flip and keeps the type within the specifications
Motorola Razr 40 shares design and some features with its older sibling, but they really change almost all specifications and most importantly – the external display. And it is that, in this model, we have an external display much more similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
It’s a 1.5-inch pOLED display with 368 x 194 pixel resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It has an elongated form factor with a 2:1 aspect ratio and peak brightness is still quite high at 1,000 nits.
The internal screen has the same characteristics as its big brother, but the refresh rate goes from 165 Hz to 144 Hz and inside we see the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 or 256GB storage configurations. The battery is a little bigger, 4,200mAh with 30W charging and 5W wireless charging.
In the camera section, we find the same front sensor and the same wide angle, but in this case the main angle has 64 megapixels with f/1.7 aperture and optical stabilization.
Versions, prices and version Motorola Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra
Considering the features of the new Motorola foldables, let’s go with the price as it’s a key factor not only for foldables in general, but for this generation in particular.
And that’s it, The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is now on sale for 1,199 dollars. The Motorola Razr 40 will arrive in June at a price of 899.99 dollars, which makes it one of the most accessible foldables.
