In 2019, Apple posted a curious job posting in which it was looking for engineers “to build the next generation of multimedia applications for Windwos.” In 2020, we saw the Apple TV app coming to the Xbox and, according to 9to5mac, more could be coming: Music and podcasts will appear in the Microsoft Store this year.
The successors of iTunes arrive on Windows
According to sources at 9to5mac, Apple is testing Music and Podcast apps on Microsoft platforms as a private beta. At the moment, we don’t know if the apps are development for PC or for Xbox system, as we have already seen in the case of the Apple TV app.
Remember that with the launch of macOS Catalina in September 2019, Apple has divided iTunes into music, podcasts, and Apple TV and arrested the famous player. At the same time, it kept the version of iTunes for Windows, but the app hasn’t received any new features since.
With all this, successive iTunes apps are expected to reach Windows as well. Something that we are already seeing with other platforms and that will surely increase according to the plan of consolidate the catalog of services offered by Apple.
It is clear that Apple wants to facilitate access to its music and movies and series services. It is true that through the web you can access all of them directly, but the experience of a native app is another level.
