Even though many people ignore it, Apple Watches detect the number of steps we take throughout the day. And I say many don’t know about it because it’s somewhat hidden in the “Fitness” app on the iPhone and in the watch itself. However, we cannot receive alerts or have too many instructions regarding these daily steps.
That being said, and knowing how many kilometers we should travel per day, years ago I started looking apps that clearly inform you of daily steps. And in these I found two options that more than comply with this and are also free.
For me, this is the best app to count steps on Apple Watch
Since the launch of the first Apple Watch in 2015 we can receive alerts to close the activity rings and which essentially consist of having reached the daily goal of having gotten up several times a day to avoid spending many hours sitting, after burning a certain number of calories. and having played sports for a few minutes.
Something similar is what I found with the “Activity Tracking” application. I did a complete analysis of it some time ago and it is the one I know best today. It is available in the App Store, is compatible with iPhone and Apple Watch and is free, although there is also a paid version.
ActivityTracker Pedometer
Monitor your daily activity without draining the battery and without wearing an activity tracker!
THE “Pro” version of “Activity Tracker” At the time it cost 11.49 dollars per year and now it costs 17.49 dollars per year. It has undergone a significant increase of more than 34%, although if we measure it monthly, it amounts to 1.49 dollars per month (even if it is paid in one go). With this paid version, advertisements are removed, the possibility of changing the main measurement parameter between steps, calories and distances is added, in addition to allowing more interesting notifications for our goals.
Is it worth it? Well, it depends. Doing this monthly division costs less than 2 dollars per month and although it is worth it, the truth is that maybe you don’t need to subscribe if you do not take advantage of all the advantages that this premium version offers. And, while that’s not a lot of money, we’re in the age of subscriptions and one more eventually adds up. The version I will review here is the free version.
How does the “Activity Tracker” work?
What you need to know about “Activity Tracker” and any other similar apps is that you can get historical measurements relating to time before having the application. It all comes down to giving the app permissions to access our health data. In this way, the application will be able to obtain the recordings from the “Health” application on the iPhone.
The application itself couldn’t be simpler, organized into three tabs in which to have all the information.
- Trends: we will be able to quickly see what our step trends are, both by hour counting the current day and last week. Some data is included such as percentage of progress. Calorie data and information from previous months and years also appear at the bottom.
- Good morning : a complete summary with all data on steps taken during the day, calories burned, minutes of exercise, kilometers traveled and number of floors climbed. And although the section is called Good morningit is possible to go to previous days to see the exact statistics for that day.
- Profile: In this section we find the application settings in order to configure the minimum number of daily steps that we want to take, the main color of the application, as well as other settings related to notifications and even the possibility of subscribing to the paid version.
Additions to see how many steps we took
It seems like a simple detail, but the truth is that the best way to see how many steps we take in a day is to look at the app icon. And “Activity Tracker” use the notification bubble to indicate how many actions we have taken. While it is true that there are times when it does not update in real time, in general it is generally accurate and is useful to see, at a glance, how much we we are advanced.
This application also offers up to five widget styles in which get different information at a glance. Apart from the steps taken, it also allows you to see the calories burned, as well as a graph in which you can see the progress made over the last few days.
Likewise, and for me this is the most interesting thing, The app will send us notifications to achieve our daily goals. It’s similar to what the Apple Watch brings natively with the rings, although in my opinion less overwhelming, since you can configure a single notification at the end of the day so as not to forget and, if necessary, to walk enough to finish it.
Another app to count steps
I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to briefly mention the candidacy ‘Pedometer++’ (yes, with two signs of further). I came across her through an igamesnews.commenter who recommended her to the team and the rest of the readers. Like the previous one, it is also available in the App Store and is compatible with the Apple Watch.
Pedometer++
Take advantage of iPhone’s step counting feature to improve your health. With Pedometer++, you can easily monitor your daily and weekly step counts, without affecting battery life at all.
Personally, I like “Activity Tracker” better because of the interface and widgets, although for practical reasons this app is just as useful for counting steps. It is free and also has a paid version at 1.99 dollars per month. As standard, it offers a wide range of challenges to achieve the daily step goal and an interface that, in the end, also shows our progress very well.
