My Samsung with One UI was slow until I changed these settings. Now my phone is flying

It is inevitable: over the years, our cell phones and tablets will become Slow downfull of long-accumulated applications and files, among other reasons. On older devices with more limited hardware, this uncomfortable feeling usually occurs earlier than on more powerful devices.

Fortunately, in the case of Samsung Galaxy devices, the One UI system, the Android-based customization layer used by Samsung, includes some settings and tools that allow us improve performance of our devices and make them smoother to use. Below is a quick guide to achieve this.

Change these settings to speed up the performance of your Samsung Galaxy with One UI

In general, we can take some general and very useful measures to improve the performance of a slow mobile phone: freeing up storage space is one of the most important and useful, either by eliminating games and applications that we do not use, in addition to duplicate and large files.

I have already installed One UI 6.1.1 and my Samsung is full of artificial intelligence. These are the features I like the most

But One UI offers tools that we can take advantage of it to improve the performance of our devices. In my case, I applied these changes to the settings of my tablet, a Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2020 model), and I noticed a considerable jump in its fluidity: it no longer seems slow, as before, so I can enjoy one of my favorite applications with a more enriching experience.

Control Background App Activity in One UI

A UI 1 performance

Some applications such as social networks and others tend to run constantly in the background, which although it is usually very useful in applications like WhatsApp, allows us to save resources consumed by other less useful applications. Do we really need TikTok, Instagram or some games to run in the background? I don’t think so, in these cases we can choose the app only works when we access itand not constantly in the background.

  • We go to the Settings menu then to the section Battery
  • We access ‘Background Usage Limits
  • We activate the option ‘Suspend unused applications’
  • Afterwards, let’s go’Deep Suspension Applications
  • Click ‘+’ and add all the apps that we think don’t need to run in the background

This will prevent apps from sending us real-time notifications and consuming resources, but it will not affect its operation every time we open the app. In other words, you will not know that you have received a As on X/Twitter immediately, but when you enter the social network.

Set maximum CPU performance in One UI

A user interface allows us to choose whether we want prioritize mobile performance or longer battery life. In the case of a mobile phone that runs very slowly, we will logically prefer the first option. The battery might last a little less time, of course, but the user experience will be more optimal.

  • Let’s go to the Settings menu
  • We access ‘Device maintenance
  • We press ‘Performance profile‘ and select ‘Standard’

In this way, our device will have as a priority to offer the highest processor performance, which will benefit the fluidity of use. It is important to mention that this setting does not affect performance when we play, since One UI recognizes what we are doing and always offers us the best processor performance in our games.

After a decade with an Android phone, I switched to an iPhone three months ago. I already know which platform I'm going to choose.

Configure automatic mobile optimization in One UI

Samsung Galaxy phones have a device maintenance feature that lets you give the system a fresh air, so to speak. In short, auto-optimization closes all background apps and cleans up memory, with a quick reboot from time to time. According to Samsung, this can fix some issues that can occur when the device goes too long without restarting.

  • We go to the Settings menu and, again, access ‘Device maintenance
  • Then click on ‘Automatic optimization‘ then on ‘Automatic restart’
  • We have two options: we can configure automatic restart whenever necessary, which will allow the mobile to restart when needed, or restart at our preferred times

I recommend the first option only for the most serious cases, as it can be annoying for the mobile to restart at any time of the day (even if the process takes very little time). Personally, I chose the second option, setting up my tablet restarted early in the morning about every two days.

With these settings changes, your Samsung Galaxy device’s performance should improve significantly. However, you can also follow more of our tips to improve a slow mobile phone, including the ability to speed up screen transitions in the interface by disabling (or speeding up) system animations.
