The arrival of such impressive hardware as the Apple Vision Pro benefits from impeccable work by the engineers and developers of the Big Apple. Creating visionOS to change the way we think about the virtual world goes beyond design and code. However, a core part of visionOSand we will see it in the years to come, are the external developers and large companies that will have to adapt their applications and tools to a totally new ecosystem. For now Netflix does not intend to create a specific application for Apple Vision Pro, a totally different position from Disney+.
Is Netflix underestimating the potential of the Apple Vision Pro?
The visuals and examples we saw of the Apple Vision Pro at WWDC23 of video streaming apps were impressive. Being able to put on glasses, isolate yourself from the outside world and immerse yourself in a movie, literally speaking, is something that until a few months ago we did not imagine that Apple could offer us in a short period of time. Services like Disney+ have already announced create personalized experiences for Apple Vision Pro.

However, Mark Gurman, through his weekly Bloomberg newsletter, announced that Netflix has no plans to adapt its apps to the Apple Vision Pro. Without a doubt, it’s a move that many weren’t expecting, especially given the Disney+ move. The reason? The argument is that the Big Apple can easily convert iPad apps to visionOS.
What’s also surprising is that Netflix already offers immersive experiences on other platforms such as Meta Quests. Is it likely that Netflix is trying to be a bit skeptical of the Apple Vision Pro so as not to invest too many resources in an app or platform that could to click?
