During WWDC 2021, Apple announced a novelty that directly affects users in Europe. While most of the new features in iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS will be released worldwide, there is one in particular that will not.

Until now, only Maps app users in the US, UK, Ireland and Canada could take advantage of the news that Apple introduced a year ago. Finally, we can also do it if we are on Spanish territory.

But what else should you know about the new Apple Cards?

When will the new Apple Maps arrive in Europe?

As we said, Apple took advantage of WWDC 2021 to announce the arrival of the redesigned cards in Europe. The company assured that it would arrive the same day, June 7 (which was the day the opening speech inaugural).

Obviously, we’re referring to the features that hit Apple Maps a year ago when Apple redesigned the app. In that sense, the new things coming with iOS 15 and macOS Monterey are not included, for which we will have to wait until the fall (unless you install the beta of iOS 15 and the beta of macOS Monterey).

In which countries is the new Apple Maps available?

In addition to Europe, Apple announced that from June 7, the new redesigned maps will also be available in Portugal. Later, the exclusive features of these cards will reach Italy and Australia.

These four countries are in addition to the four others where the new Apple Maps were already operational: the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada. For now, however, nothing is known of his arrival in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

What’s New in New Apple Cards?

1. Higher level of detail, greater coverage and more precision

One of the main novelties is the greater precision and detail of the maps, in which you can now appreciate a more precise representation of the terrain. For example, parks now include internal roads with greater realism.

In this sense, there is also greater coverage of roads and pedestrian areas, and more information on streets, parks, beaches, etc. appear. There is also more information on points of interest (shops, supermarkets, petrol stations …).

2. Panoramic view

It remains to be confirmed whether Apple will decide to include the panoramic views of some Spanish cities like Madrid or Barcelona in Maps, but the truth is that you will be able to check those already available, like New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles.

The new maps include “high resolution interactive street images, 3D photographs and smooth transitions”. In addition to 18 US cities, the feature is available in places like Dublin, Edinburgh, London, and Tokyo.

3. Overview

Apple is also introducing a fun new way to visit over 350 cities. The Flyover function allows you to visualize a city from a bird’s eye view of the main metropolitan areas and with realistic and immersive 3D views.

4. Collections

This new feature allows you to create lists from Maps, whether it’s your favorite restaurants, places you want to visit or planning your next vacation. You can also easily share these lists with your friends.

5. Favorites

Surely there are places you go more frequently, whether it’s your home or your work. Now you can save these places in the “Favorites” category so that, with one touch, you can access this site. It has never been easier and faster.

6. Public transport in real time

Now you can also use Apple Maps to view public transport timetables in real time. This includes departure and arrival times, the current location of the bus or train, and possible incidents affecting traffic.
