In recent years, innovation in the field of image and sound has not stopped. The Apple TV may not have been updated, with the Apple TV 4K, released in 2017, the latest model, but we already have news that require more than just a new software version. And that’s where the next review of this product would come in.

According to the latest rumors, Apple is preparing a new version of Apple TV capable of offering an alternative to next-generation video game consoles. Powered by the latest Apple processors dedicated to entertainment, could lead new experiments that were previously not possible on any of the company’s devices.

And through this power it would be possible to achieve up to 120Hz refresh rate at 4K resolution. This would have been anticipated by the most recent beta of tvOS, which 9to5Mac claims would have references to being able to run software with this refresh rate and resolution, which is currently not possible with the Apple TV 4K.

This change would also mean that the new Apple TV model would have HDMI 2.1 compatibility, a version of the standard that also supports this resolution and refresh rate. In contrast, the Apple TV 4K only achieves 4K resolution at 60Hz, which isn’t a big deal for many users either, as most panels are limited to 60Hz.

The importance of this novelty would be in the possibility of running games, both locally and in streaming, who can benefit from a shorter response time, as is the case with FPS. Although it is possible that Apple will also take advantage of this for the interface itself and other applications.

For now, we will have to continue to wait for Apple to formalize the existence of this new model. Something that, judging by these software references, it should happen as soon as possible.
