Ring security cameras are one of the main alternatives available on Amazon to protect our home, with alerts and compatibility with the Alexa platform. But the house isn’t the only place you can put a Ring camera.

The brand’s new product is aimed at drivers, taking advantage of the growing trend of putting cameras in the car, called “dashcams”, to record possible accidents or attempted thefts.

The Ring Car Cam performs the same task, but of course it is based on technologies developed by Amazon. The main advantage is the full compatibility with Alexa, which allows us to give voice commands to control its functions, but it is not the only one.
In fact, the Ring Car Cam is a Double room, with sensors pointing both outwards and inwards of the vehicle; it is that its function is also double. Like the other cameras, it is able to record events to view them later in the Ring app installed on our mobile; but by also having an inward-pointing sensor, it is able to use motion detection algorithms to alert us in case someone has entered our car without our consent.
When the camera detects an event, it automatically starts recording and sends us a notification on our mobile. By using two cameras we can get a 360 degree view of what happened. The device even has a microphone and a speaker, so we can talk to whoever is in the car at the time.
Normally the camera will only record when the car is running, but we can also start recording manually at any time, just by saying “Alexa, record”, even if we are stopped.
The installation of the Ring Car Cam is curious, because it does not require a suction cup or adhesives; its shape, although it looks odd, was designed to fit between the dashboard and the windshield, and so the camera is so close to the glass that reflections aren’t registered.
The camera is connected to the OBD-II port of our car to obtain the necessary energy, and so it can enter low consumption mode when we turn off the engine, preventing it from consuming all the car battery and not burning out. turn on only when the sensors detect motion.
There will be two versions of the Ring Car Cam. The basic one will save the videos in memory and they will be available when we return home and can be connected to our home WiFi network, but there will also be a version with 4G connectivity.
The Ring Car Cam will cost $249.99 in the US from February, and its launch has yet to be confirmed in Europe.
