When we say mid-range, we’re talking about phones that don’t usually have the best on the market, but strike the right balance between features and price; but the lines blur and Xiaomi Redmi bears much of the blame.
[Xiaomi Redmi Note 11, análisis y opinión tras probarlo a fondo]
The Chinese manufacturer today presented its four new mobiles, with which it intends to reclaim the mid-range; there is only one “problem”, if we can call it that: some of these models have features inaccessible even for the best high-end mobiles.

The most advanced model of those presented is, without a doubt, the Explorer Edition. This is the brand new standard, releasing some hardware elements that we will surely see in future devices in the coming months. All this, in a familiar format and at a price that, at least in China, does not exceed what is usual for this range.
For starters, Xiaomi has confirmed that it will be one of the first brands to use Samsung’s new 200MP sensor for the Explorer Edition’s main camera. It seems incredible, since it’s really very recently that we’ve started to see this resolution in high-end models such as the Xiaomi 12T, but that’s the magic of Samsung’s ISOCELL HPX sensor.
As the second notable element of the Explorer Edition is also “magical”: the fast charging of no less than 210 W. It seems an incredible number, but it is true that Xiaomi has been the one who has advanced the most in fast charging; the strange thing is that it is released in a model like this, instead of a more expensive mobile.
With such power, the full charge could be completed in just 9 minutes, although as usual this depends on several factors. Aware of the fear of possible problems that end in a fire in our house, Xiaomi claims to have implemented a multiple protection in the included charger to ensure such power, as well as in the mobile’s internal battery to extend its useful life.
Finally, the third part of this mid-range that does not look like it is the processor. Xiaomi launches the Dimension 1080the new MediaTek processor based on a 6nm manufacturing process, with 6 Cortex A55 cores at 2.0 GHz and two Cortex A78 cores at 2.6 GHz, accompanied by a Mali G68 MC4 GPU and LPDDR5 memory.
This processor is what allowed Xiaomi to put so much advanced technology in the Redmi Note 12 range, as it offers support for 200 MPx cameras, 4K HDR recording, 120 Hz OLED display, Wi-Fi 6 and dual 5G connectivity.
The Redmi Note 12 Pro Explorer Edition will be available in China from 2,399 yuan, or around 331 dollars.

- RAM memory: 12 GB.
- Internal storage: 256 GB.
- Size: 6.67 inches.
- Resolution: FHD+.
- Technology: OLED.
- Refresh rate: 120Hz.
- Main: 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HPX, OIS, f/1.65.
- Wide angle: 8 Mpx
- Depth: 2 MP.
- Others: LED Flash
- Battery: 5000mAh.
- Quick Charge: 120W
- Dimensions: -x-x 8.98mm.
- Weight: 208g.
- Android version: 12.
- Manufacturer interface: MUI 13.
If we started our test of the Redmi Note 12 range from the most successful model, it is because the rest of the mobiles share certain elements. With each ‘step’ you go down you lose some functionality but retain others, and it shows when we review the Redmi Note 12 Pro+.
This model retains most of the features of the Explorer Edition, to the point that there are really only a few obvious differences, and both affect the battery. The Pro+ model has a charge of “only” 120 W, which already equates it with the best alternatives on the market but is not able to get the charge in 9 minutes. At least it comes with a battery capacity of up to 5,000 mAh.
The 12 Pro+ is otherwise identical, and keep the camera 200 Mpx Samsung’s ISOCELL HPX, as well as the same 120Hz OLED display. It also has the same processor, and that’s something all models in the range share.
The Redmi Note 12 Pro+ will be available from 2,099 yuan, the equivalent of 290 dollars.
Redmi Note 12 Pro
- Mediatek Dimension 1080.
- RAM memory: 12 GB.
- Internal storage: 256 GB.
- Size: 6.67 inches.
- Resolution: FHD+.
- Technology: OLED.
- Refresh rate: 120Hz.
- Main: 50MP Sony IMX 766, OIS.
- Wide angle: 8 Mpx
- Depth: 2 MP.
- Others: LED Flash
- Battery: 5000mAh.
- Quick Charge: 67W
- Dimensions: -x-x 7.9mm.
- Weight: 187g.
- Android version: 12.
- Manufacturer interface: MUI 13.
We go down another step, and we lose another functionality compared to the previous model. In this case, what changes is the camera compared to the Pro+ model, although the sensor chosen is not bad, just very familiar. It is the Sony IMX 766 that we have already seen in other models of the brand and which reaches 50 Mpx.
Fast charging takes another dip, in this case to 67W, although the same 5,000mAh battery is retained and the same Dimensity 1080 processor.
The Redmi Note 12 Pro will be available from 1,699 yuan, or around 234 dollars.

- Others: LED Flash
- 5G.
- Bluetooth 5.1
- WiFi 5.
- Battery: 5000mAh.
- Quick Charge: 33W
- USB-C port.
- 3.5mm audio jack port.
- Dimensions: -x-x 7.98mm.
- Weight: 188g.
- Android version: 12.
- Manufacturer interface: MUI 13.
Finally, we find the basic model of the range, at least for now. It is the mobile that gives its name to the range, although it is obviously the least complete. This model loses the third element that made the rest special, the processor, opting for a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1; it is indeed from a different brand, Qualcomm, so it will be interesting to see the differences in performance.
The 5,000 mAh battery is maintained, but the fast charge is lowered to 33 W. For the rest, it must be said at least that the same 120 Hz OLED screen is maintained, so in some respects this mobile can overcome without competition problems . However, we do not keep the same camera, which remains in a more generic 48 Mpx.
The Redmi Note 12 will be available from 1,199 yuan, or around 165 dollars to change.
At the moment we have no news of the launch of these devices in Europe, although we expect more news about it in the coming months.
