The New World Congress has for many years been the world's largest technological justice, a fair risk of cancellation due to a coronavirus. For a few days we saw one after the other, big companies taking the lead on Mobile. From LG to Vivo, several have already confirmed their retirement.

Although the GSMA is taking all possible precautions, next Friday they will meet to decide what happened with the event, announcing whether it was canceled. At that time Nokia officially confirmed that it would not attend the event.

Nokia confirms that it will not be mobile

Nokia 9 Pureview, introduced during WWC 2019.

Nokia is the most important company in the MWC, because its performance comes double. First, Nokia is a telecommunications company, and on the other hand, an Android manufacturer, licensing their product to HMD Global.

Due to concerns about the coronavirus, both parties have officially announced their exit from the event. This does not mean that they cancel events, because they will be broadcast online, with an event they identified as Nokia Live ».

The official statement

Espoo, Finland – Nokia is closely monitoring the situation when a new coronavirus develops, with a view to taking a decision related to our help in the 2020 Mobile World Congress.

While the health and safety of our employees is a top priority for us, we also recognize that we have a responsibility to the industry and to our customers. As a result, we have taken the time needed to assess the situation quickly, approaching the GSMA and other groups, consulting with experts and specialist authorities and planning various risk management.

The conclusion of this process is that we believe it is a wise decision to cancel our participation in the Mobile World Congress. We want to extend our gratitude to GSM, the governments of China and Spain, and to the Generalitat of Catalonia, and to all those who have worked tirelessly to resolve the challenges posed by the new, fully-supported coronavirus.

Instead of joining customers and partners in Barcelona, Nokia plans to go directly to our partners for a series of "Nokia Live" events aimed at showcasing our demos and launches planned for the Mobile World Congress.
