Google added notification channels to the Android operating system starting with the Android 8 “Oreo” version. This feature allows developers Segment notifications to give us better control to users about which notifications we want to receive and which ones we don’t. However, these channels can sometimes offer more problems (or mess) than solutions.
Developers can create up to 5,000 different notification channels, which can highlight an impressive number of channels for the user. And in many cases, we never receive many of these notifications. Android 15 wants to solve this problem, as the recent discovery of Michael Rahman and Android Authority.
Android 15 will hide the least used notification channels by default
Notification channels allow users to control the types of notifications they want to receive from each app. For example, if you use a home shopping app, you probably want to receive notifications about the status of your order and if it’s about to arrive at your home, but maybe you do not wish to receive notifications about promotions in the app.
Thanks to notification channels, there is no need to choose between completely disabling an app’s notifications to receive nothing, or enabling them to receive everything. We have more options and more control in notifications. The problem is that many apps have so many channels or categories that it ends up being somewhat complicatedand it is more complicated or tedious to configure them.
Famous leaker Mishaal Rahman discovered that in the Android 15 beta, the operating system hide less important or less used notification channelsthis way we will only have the most relevant channels on the screen.

Although notification channels allow us to filter out the noise of many applications and only receive notifications of what we consider truly important, the fact that some developers include dozens of channels means that it can be difficult to configure and take advantage of this Android feature. Fortunately, Android 15 will make this task easier.
And if we want see all available notification channels For an app, it’s still possible: just press the three-dot button in the upper right corner and select “Show unused channels”.
As of now, this feature is not available to all Android 15 beta users, but we can expect it to reach more people in the next development version of the operating system.
