Congratulations, Margrethe Vestager, looks like you made it. If two days ago it was Kuo who bet on an iPhone with USB-C, now it’s Mark Gurman who puts it on the table. Bloomberg’s editor claimed that Apple I would already test prototypes of the phone with USB-C to unify the connections of your products.
A unification had to come sooner or later
Gurman’s unnamed sources indicate that Apple I would also be preparing an adapter so that all accessories with a Lightning port remain compatible. It would probably be a very discreet part to connect the Lightning cable and that could be plugged into the USB-C ports of future iPhones, something similar to what was included in the iPhone 7 to be able to connect the jack audio into the Lightning port.
Although there is no data on this, the simple fact of having an iPhone with USB-C can also mean that sooner or later all the accessories (Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, AirPods…) end up by adopting this port and so on. unify all chargers and cables. This is exactly what the European Union plans to impose.
And this for when? Well, not for the already approaching iPhone 14, from which an improved Lightning port is expected with USB 3.0 interface speeds. But it is possible that the iPhone 15 of 2023 already carries it, Mark Gurman does not rule out this schedule if Apple hurries. If we add to this the leaked two-port USB-C charger, little by little a future is being defined in which we will no longer have to carry so many accessories to charge our Apple devices.
