Just a few weeks ago, Apple announced new iPhones, Apple Watch, and AirPods. However, these won’t be the last products the company will introduce in 2022, as new Macs and iPads could still arrive.
In recent years, Apple has held a second fall event in October. This has always been used to launch new Mac and iPad models. Will it still be like this in 2022 or will the company choose not to do so this year?
Here’s everything you need to know about a possible October event.
Will there be an Apple event in October?
For a while now, we’ve been assuming that Apple will hold two events this fall: one in September to launch new iPhones and Apple Watch, and another in October to unveil new iPads and Macs.
Apple is expected to launch several new products before the end of the year, and hosting a final Apple event is the logical way to introduce them to the company. But there is also the possibility that no event takes place.
In seven of the last ten years, Apple has held an event in October, so it wouldn’t be unprecedented if it didn’t happen. Mark Gurman of Bloombergsuggested that Apple might choose to issue multiple press releases to announce new products.
When is Apple’s October event?
Invitations to the event haven’t been sent out yet, but we can get an idea of when the October Apple event might take place based on what’s happened in previous years.
In the past, Apple has held events in October on the following dates:
- 2021: Monday, October 18
- 2020: Tuesday, October 13
- 2019: There were no events
- 2018: Tuesday, October 30
- 2017: There were no events
- 2016: Thursday, October 27
- 2015: No event
- 2014: Thursday, October 16
- 2013: Tuesday, October 22
- 2012: Tuesday, October 23
- 2011: Tuesday, October 4
As you can see, Apple hasn’t always had an event in October, but the truth is there have been more occasions than there have been. There are reasons to think that there could be an October event in 2022.
We expect it to take place on Tuesday October 18th or Tuesday October 25th. Since the iPhone 14 event took place a week earlier than usual, it could also take place earlier, possibly on October 11.
If this happens, invitations will be sent out one week before the event.
When will Apple’s October event start?
If Apple ends up holding an event in October, it should start at 10:00 a.m. local California time as usual.
This would be the start time in your country:
- 11:00 a.m. | Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua
- 12:00 | Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru
- 1:00 p.m. | Bolivia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Venezuela
- 2:00 p.m. | Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay
- 19:00 | Europe
Apple events typically last an hour or two. If you want to watch the October event live, Apple will be streaming the opening speech on his website and on his YouTube channel.
What will Apple present at the October event?
Whether or not an event actually happens, expect Apple to show off new Macs and iPads. Also likely this month, Apple will release iPadOS 16.1 and macOS 13 Ventura.
Here’s what we expect Apple to announce in October.
MacBook Pro 14″ and 16″
The first Macs that are expected to be updated in October are the 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pros which are said to feature an M2 Pro chip. For now, this is just speculation, but Apple is already known to be working on it.
In his newscast June Mark Gurman of Bloombergsaid Apple is planning to launch M2 versions of the Mac mini, Mac Pro and MacBook Pro, but no changes are planned beyond the processor.
mac mini
Now that Apple has a 13″ MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air with the M2 chip, an M2-powered Mac mini is likely to arrive. A possible event in October would be a good place to showcase it.
Also, the updated model with M1 might not be the only new Mac mini coming. We could also see a more high-end Mac mini based on the M2 Pro to replace the Intel version still marketed by Apple.
The new top model could get a new design, color and more ports, to go along with its faster M2 Pro processor.
iPadPro
But it won’t just be Macs that will get new chips. Rumors suggest a new iPad Pro with an M2 processor, possibly with wireless charging and MagSafe, is also on the way.
iPad 10th generation
October’s biggest release could be the cheapest iPad, the entry-level 10.2″ model. Rumors suggest that this model could be redesigned with thinner bezels, a 10-inch larger screen, 5″ and a USB port. -C and 5G.
You could also lose the headphone jack.
Mac Pro
Apple once said that the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon would take two years. It’s been more than two years since Apple announced it, and in October it will be two years since the launch of the first Macs with the M1.
Apple announced a new Mac Pro at the event Performance Overview March, but the current Mac Pro still uses Intel chips. We don’t have much information on what the new Mac Pro will look like, but it will likely use an even more advanced version of the M2 chip.
It’s possible the new Mac Pro will launch this same 2022, although it’s most likely in 2023.
