A recent survey reveals that teenagers in the United States are not interested in virtual reality. Weak point for Apple?
We are sure that the data from this survey will serve Apple in the future. According to Piper Sandler, via CNBC, only 4% of their teens surveyed use VR headsets daily. This only in the United Stateswhich shows that at present, it is not as flashy as smart phones.
Virtual reality is not the forte of teenagers in the United States
More survey data reflect 29% of teenagers with at least one virtual reality device. Interestingly, 87% of respondents own an iPhone, an abysmal percentage of comparison between one device and another. They were asked about the alleged new Apple device geared towards this issue and only 7% were interested in buying it. 52% of respondents are not interested or are unsure of acquiring it in the future.
Despite an investment of one million dollars in the field of virtual or augmented reality, the popularity among users is still not enough to assume that this is already a market that deserves some attention. Tech companies have also made an effort to launch low-cost products, therefore, teens are a good indicator of whether a technology can be adopted and visualize likely preferences.
Piper Sandler analysts conclude that “hot use” demonstrates that virtual reality is in “premature” use and devices are less important (for now) than cell phones.
If Apple enters the virtual reality market with a device, things could change
It is very important to delve into this subject because Apple is about to launch a device related to the virtual / augmented reality market. The survey itself left the ground for increasing preferences more than anything among potential customers.
While it’s true that this is a somewhat limited survey, 5,600 teenagers were surveyed last February, this may project a line of what may happen with future devices launched by companies like Apple or Meta. Regarding the latter, which aims to be the strongest competitor, it is the sales leader, but sales have been declining over the past year.
Could Apple be a game changer? We know that those of Cupertino rely heavily on their own version of a device. It happened with the iPhone, it happened with the iPod, it happened with the iPad and it happened with the Mac. They are devices that have strong competition but manage to attract the attention and preference of the public.
Until those in Cupertino launch the product and it becomes available, we won’t know how far it can go in terms of reviews and likes. It won’t be an affordable product but it could be a next revolution just like it happened when Steve Jobs announced this device which would be an iPod, a mobile and a device with internet access.
