It seems like yesterday that Android 14 was presented, and we are already talking about Android 15. The new version of the system is expected for the second half of the year, and although huge changes are not expected compared to the current version, it has the potential to be one of the most useful versions of Android yet.
For example, it seems that the widgets on the lock screen are finally returning, one of the most requested functions by users who see how all that space is wasted. The Private Space function, which will allow us to hide the applications and files that we have on our mobile, can also be particularly useful.
How useful is the new function revealed by Android Authority, which would allow us to share the sound of our Android mobile with other devices via Bluetooth. The feature is called Auracast, and it is said to be designed to output audio to multiple devices at the same time, as long as they are in an area close to the transmitter.
Although Bluetooth already allows sound output (e.g. for wireless headphones), the process involves first pairing the device that will receive the sound and selecting it as the audio output. On the other hand, with Auracast the process would be very simplified, since the transmitting device would simply offer a connection to which other devices can be connected directly.
Concretely, under Android 15, this will work by scanning a QR code generated by our mobile; Once the connection is established, the other device will receive the sound broadcast on our mobile phone and can in turn broadcast it through its already paired speakers or headphones. A new section in Android 15’s settings will allow you to share audio or connect to available broadcasts; The Auracast specification allows find audio streams the same way we find WiFi networksallowing us to connect with those nearby.
This feature can be very useful in many situations; For example, sharing the song we are listening to with another person, without having to give them our headphones or turn on the speakers. The only requirement is that both devices are compatible with Auracast; Many modern phones already support the Bluetooth LE specification used by Auracast, so in theory they could use it only with software update to Android 15. Additionally, more Auracast-compatible accessories are expected to start arriving throughout 2024, such as headphones, speakers, and TVs.
