Replacing leather cases earned recognition from Apple!
In recent years, Apple has become more insistent when it comes to publicizing the different actions that support its commitment to the environment, let us remember as an example the special on “Mother Earth” presented during of the “Wonderlust” keynote, in September 2023. Precisely, this commitment was recognized by PETA, an organization that named Apple Company of the Year 2023.
On this occasion, the animal rights organization (PETA) chose those with a bitten apple, thanks to the decision to no longer offer leather accessories, transforming them into an example to others on environmental and animal cruelty issues.
PETA highlights Apple’s FineWoven cases
In a blog post, PETA recognizes Apple for its efforts to eliminate leather from its product line and its goal to be carbon neutral by 2023. According to PETA, these actions position the iPhone maker as a company that meets consumer demand with more sustainable products.
Apple will “protect countless animals and help mitigate climate catastrophe…allow compassionate consumers to feel good about purchasing environmentally and animal-friendly products.”
Furthermore, PETA also praised the new FineWoven line for the iPhone 15 and bands for the Apple Watch which uses fewer emissions in its production than high carbon leather.
Apple introduced the new FineWoven or “fine braid” covers in September 2023. They are made with durable fabric featuring a diagonal interlocking structure made from 68% recycled polyester.which implies a lower carbon footprint than leather.
Despite their lower environmental impact, the covers have been the focus of criticism from users, who say they are very susceptible to scratches and other marks. Being a less durable material than leather, any small bump or scrape could cause a scratch. A very regrettable inconvenience for a product that costs 69 dollars.
While other consumers have indicated that the Thin braided cases don’t line up perfectly with iPhone 15’s new USB-C port. Although not all “FineWoven” braid covers seem to be affected by this issue.
However, As this is the first generation of a product made with recyclable material, it is certain that Apple will continue to work to optimize it. so that in the future, the benefits outweigh these inconsistencies.
