The Pixel Buds Pro are high-end wireless headphones that Google launched last year in Europe. Now the guys at Mountain View are gearing up to release a major update that includes “Clear Calling”a feature for clearer audio calls.

After rolling out two updates to the Pixel Buds Pro since their release in July last year, a third is coming soon. This follows the big March addition of spatial audio support with head tracking and five-band EQ support from firmware installed in October 2022.

Already last year, all Pixels received this function called “Clear Calling”, which simply does what it does reduce background noise on audio calls. Exactly the one that will arrive in this major update that Google has prepared for its high-end headphones.

In addition to reducing background noise, it also allows improve vocals making them clearer and therefore easier to distinguish in environments where it is difficult to make an audio call. Although the background noise is still there, it is significantly reduced as claimed by 9to5Google in its experience with headphones.

There is a curious detail related to the clear calls of the Pixels and that is that they use the Tensor G2 chip to take advantage of this experience. The Pixel Buds Pro don’t have this processor, so it’s unclear if it works completely in the headphones or if they need to be paired with a mobile.

Two other new features for the Buds Pro

The second novelty is the support of “Super Wide Band Speech” to improve the quality of the audio calls from 16 to 32 kHz; Just a job from Google to support Bluetooth on Android.

This new feature is tied to an HD voice enhancement, which has finally arrived thanks to Voice Over LTE or VoLTE. There is a possible link to the previous improvement for clearer calls and so this update focuses on improving the sound exponentially when we have a conversation with the Buds Pro.

Finally, there is another feature related to Digital Wellbeing. What it does is consider that you are listening through the headphones and the volume used to enjoy the sound experience.

These improvements should arrive in the coming months and will continue to improve the audio experience to make its next wireless headphones more attractive to buy, those that Google plans to launch as early as 2024.
