Right now, many iPhone owners are focused on the new iOS 18 software update, which is packed with features and is currently in beta and will be released to the public in the fall. But Apple is continuing to rele ase updates for iOS 17 in the meantime, and due to the need to quickly address security vulnerabilities, these are just as important.
The next update for iOS 17 will be 17.5.2, and a reliable source has claimed that it is currently in the works at Apple HQ. Based on past behavior, it is likely to be released later in July. It will arrive before iOS 17.6, which has been in beta testing for a few weeks.
According to MacRumors, which declined to cite the source because its Twitter account is set to private, the anonymous leaker claims that Apple is preparing to release what it describes as a “minor” update to iOS 17.5.2, which will carry the build number 21F101. It might be minor in terms of interface changes and new features, but the bug fixes and security patches it contains are still worth installing.
If the idea of an anonymous source on Twitter doesn’t reassure you, MacRumors is willing to vouch for it, noting that they “have proven to be a consistently accurate source for upcoming iOS updates.” Based on the gap between predictions and launches in the past, the site deduces that iOS 17.5.2 will be released within the next two weeks.
There’s one more thing we’d like to add. When Apple tests a software update, it’s common for sites like ours to spot the still-unreleased operating system showing up in very small numbers in web analytics. We haven’t noticed iOS 17.5.2 so far. That’s not to say it won’t arrive, but it’s a point of corroboration we can’t provide on this occasion.
