It was May 1998, Apple was in a very difficult financial and market place, Steve Jobs held the position of CEO of the company and had come up with the idea of save everything.
Apple could have ceased to exist
Windows PCs are beloved by almost 90 users, they take commercials, they actually have not been competitive and even though Apple donated a line of ten desktop computers, none were as successful as expected. placing every product at high financial risk.
Ever since Steve Jobs came to the company, it's been 10 months of hard work finding a strategy that could save him. Finally on May 6 Steve Jobs stood in front of the hall to present that he would notify the media of the status of Apple at the time and what it was doing.
The activities look really fun and with a well-managed talk, Apple will introduce the Mac. A computer that will be one of the key products over the next few years and one of the foundations of technology and technology that will propel the largest apple company into the success we know today.
The iMac G3
The iMac has come to transform everything known until then in the computer world, presented with the following features:
- PowerPC G3 processor at 233 MHz speed
- 15 ″ CRT screen with 1024 × 768 pixel resolution
- 32MB RAM
- 4GB hard drive
- 24x CD-ROM
- Modem for Internet connection via dial-up
- 100 10/100 Ethernet port
- Infrared port
The level of different desktop computers and monitor, individual accessories and connected to different ports was left behind. The iMac promised the user that they would forget about various meetings and wires. You just take it out of its box and one button on it. It was amazing!
With this new Mac, Steve Jobs had decided to not only reduce the line of computers from 10 to 4, focusing on this signal for all types of users, but also completely eliminate the use of floppy disks to provide access to the use of CD-ROMs.
Also, The Mac was the first computer to use USB ports and offered the highest speed of internet browsing of the time. All of this technology was stored in a "portable" cupboard made of durable plastic, with built-in speakers and a monitor that eventually gave the computer "in-one-computer".
The legacy of the Mac
Ten years passed before Steve Jobs realized his vision icac is compact, simple and easy to use Mac. On May 6, 1998 the Mac was introduced, however, it was August when it started selling.
First, there was debate about the lack of floppy disks and other issues related to contemporary technology standards, but this was actually a computer that was compatible with the pop generation of those years. It was very common to see a plain wardrobe in various youth films and in advertising.
We now have an iMac that will be upgraded with a new release. We've also been able to see some great ideas that give an idea of the future of this product, such as this concept based on ownership.
But on the other hand, it's good to know how it all began, to understand the context in which this computer was introduced and to those living at that time, to bring that nostalgia of the rise of mass technology.
