A little over a week ago, Apple offered us another way to repair our iPhone: it launched the self-repair program in several European countries, including Europe. A self-repair program that comes with the possibility to rent tools of the iPhone repair kit to complete it.
A few days ago we already talked about the tools, the shipping process and the value of investing in what is surely the best help we can receive to make any repair a complete success. But there is a detail that may have gone unnoticed and that must be taken into account: the 1250 dollars which will be invoiced at the time of placing the order
A deposit in the form of an additional 1250 dollars
The price of the tools that Apple provides us with to carry out the repair is more than considerable. We’ve already seen in the full review that this is premium hardware, so it’s only natural that Apple wants to make sure it’s returned and returned in the same condition in which it was received. For this reason, the boxes in which the tools are sent are sealed and, after breaking the seal and using them, we must close them before sending them.
This serves as a guarantee that no one has changed the contents of the boxes during transport and therefore makes it possible to establish that, if a tool is missing, the person responsible for said absence is either Apple or us. And this is important because Apple blocks the full amount of the toolbox on our card. An amount which amounts to exactly 1250 dollars and which must be paid when ordering the tools.
We will see two charges on our credit card. On the one hand, 59.95 dollars, which represents the price of the service itself, including postage, on the other hand, 1,250 dollars. The latter, at the end of the seven-day rental period and after Apple has examined the tools and their condition, will be returned to our original payment method
The truth is that it is a procedure like so many others, at no real cost to us. But it’s true that it’s a detail to take into account, especially so as not to be afraid when you see the debit appear on the card. A guarantee that we return the material and a reminder that it is of the best quality to ensure that the repair we carry out has the maximum guarantees.
