We first heard that Apple could ship new M4 Macs starting this fall in a report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. Another report on Thursday lends credence to the shipment of new Macs, particularly new MacBook Pros.
According to a post on X (subscription required) by analyst Ross Young, MacBook Pro display shipments will “begin in July/August.” Given that it’s mid-August, that would indicate that these shipments may have been underway for some time. Young tracks the display supply chain and has a proven track record of accuracy in this area.
The timing coincides with the M4 MacBook Pro’s rumored fall release. Apple plans to release the M4 models of the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini before the end of this year, according to Mark Gurman. The M4 MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro will ship in 2025.
In October 2023, Apple announced the M3 series of MacBook Pro at its “Scary Fast” event, and the laptop shipped in November. Apple will likely follow suit this year; the October/November timing comes in time for the holiday shopping season.
The MacBook Pro is expected to feature the base M4 processor in the entry-level 14-inch model, and the M4 Pro and M4 Max processors in the higher-end models. Last year, Apple introduced the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max processors at the same time, which is a change from the M1 and M2 chip release schedule. The fall MacBook Pro release and the introduction of a new chip seems to be a schedule that Apple will stick to going forward. Read more about the rumors surrounding the new M4 MacBook Pro.
