The first Geekbench figures are revealed regarding the performance of the A17 Pro chip in the iPad mini 7
The surprise of the week was undoubtedly the launch of the iPad mini with A17 Pro chip, a somewh at watered down launch knowing that there were no major changes compared to the previous generation. However, this does not mean that users are waiting to buy it. The first results taken with Geekbench are now available, showing that this new iPad contains 8 GB of RAM
The iPad mini 7 had to be compatible with Apple Intelligence, that’s why its 8 GB of RAM
It’s definitely a jump to go from the 4GB of RAM the previous generation had to 8GB of RAM. The main reason is Apple Intelligenceso we shouldn’t be surprised. Another detail, as we mentioned before, The A17 Pro chip is slightly different since the one in the iPad mini 7 has a 5-core GPU1 below the iPhone 15 Pro.
Thanks to MySmartPrice you have the first results of the performance of the A17 Pro chip in the iPad mini. According to what is published, they are 2710 points in single-core tests and 6543 points in multi-core tests on Geekbench. Compared to the previous generation, a significant improvement is reflected, the iPad mini 6 had around 2100 points in single-core and 5400 in multi-core. The iPhone 15 Pro recorded a score of around 2900 points in single-core and 7200 in multi-core. Only in daily use will the true differences in performance be demonstrated.
In GPU performance, iPad mini 7 is better than iPhone 15 Pro
In the respective GPU performance score, the iPad mini 7 is superior to the iPhone 15 Pro. Apple’s mini tablet obtained a score of 25,600 points while the iPhone 15 Pro recorded 20,700 at the time. The iPad mini 6’s score at the time was 20,200.
Why did they implement the A17 Pro chip and not an A18 chip? This was surely part of a segmentation of a product which, although not entirely new in its design, had to have a distinctive feature that distanced it from more recent ones like the iPhone 16 generation. In addition, Apple could use leftover chips or wanted to. save some expenses instead of using the latest chips.
Another curious fact about the chip is that its processor has 6 cores, the same number as an A16 Bionic chip.. Performance could be mainly supported by RAM, although this will be demonstrated in its first usage evaluations. If you want a modern iPad with Apple Intelligence without spending more money for an iPad Air or Pro, the iPad mini will be placed as the main front door as Apple launches the 11th generation iPad.
