Our colleagues from Urban Tecno have already been able to test the iPhone 14 Pro for a while and leave us their complete analysis of the device, you can see the video below.
iPhone 14 Pro design
In terms of design, we find few surprises. We are facing an iPhone that continues with Apple’s design line of the latest models and that, above all, it feels very premium. The materials used and the build quality are way above average which always stands out in the iPhone.
It’s a nice device. The black model is very elegant.
We keep the chassis glossy finish stainless steel and matt glass back
As for bad designour Urban Tecno colleagues point out high weightcommon in Apple Pro models due to the use of stainless steel instead of aluminum, and the straight edges. They are not as comfortable as the round ones when using the device.
iPhone 14 Pro screen
One of the best screens of the year, if not the best. We came from a large panel in the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro improves on two fundamental aspects: the refresh ratewhich can now go down to a single Hz, keeping the maximum of 120 Hz, and the brilliantwho is able to achieve 2,000 nits outside.
dynamic island
The differential point of the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, a new element that replaces the notch. Our colleagues from Urban Tecno did not like Apple’s new invention at all, for various reasons.
On the one hand, it occupies more than the notch. Really it does not occupy more, but it is located a little lower on the screen to leave some space above. And it makes you feel like you’re more in the middle when playing a game or watching a full-screen video.
While yes they liked this is all the software implementations and functions it includes. Although it is true that this is a section that can be improved with software updates.
screen always on
The always-on display takes advantage of the LTPO OLED panel with a frequency of only 1Hz to always display the iOS 16 lock screen in a dim way. iPhone 14 Pro doesn’t just show the time, even the wallpaper appears with Always-On mode enabled at minimum brightness.
If you like the effect, great, it must be said that when carrying the iPhone in a pocket or a bag the screen turns off, however it has a big but: the excessive consumption of the battery. We are talking about a consumption that can be between 10 and 15% throughout the day just to have the screen always on.
I deactivated it after three days. It doesn’t quite convince me as a concept. The problem with this Always-On is that by always maintaining a minimum brightness, it consumes more battery than you would like. In terms of effects and animations, it is very well integrated, but it consumes a lot more battery. About an hour or an hour and a half less use when activated.
Performance: sustained development
Apple has reached a level in terms of chips where it is very difficult to overcome. Is the A16 Bionic chip better than the A15 Bionic? Yes, the numbers say it. However it doesn’t become something real everyday. The system continues to run just as well and the games continue to run very well without any slowdowns.
It is the best processor on the market. The performances are excellent, the optimization is very well done. Apple always manages to make its devices work better.
Battery: fairer than it should
the battery of The iPhone 14 Pro offers a very similar duration to that of the 13 Pro. Thus, in normal use of the device, you will get to the end of the day without needing to recharge it. The main problem with the battery comes when you activate the always-on display.
In this case, with Always-On enabled, you’ll have to go through the charger before the end of the day if you’re a very demanding user. It’s not a battery freak, which is what the iPhone 14 Pro Max is for, but it’s fine as long as you turn that feature off.
The battery in a day of normal use, with Always-On enabled, is fine. You will arrive at the end of the day very just. If you are a demanding user, it is possible that at some point you will have to recharge the device.
The worst of the iPhone 14 Pro: Lightning and fast charging
Apple keeps the Lightning connector on the iPhone 14 Pro for another year, and we’ve already seen that this can be a problem when transferring large files to a computer, as the technology is limited to USB 2.0. Apple uses USB-C on iPads and Macs, so the logical step would be to see it on iPhone as well, but not yet.
Fast charging remains constant for another year, charge half the battery in 30 minutes. This is still a slow speed considering there are devices that fully charge their battery during this time.
Cameras: Probably the best on the market
The iPhone 14 Pro’s main camera takes center stage this year, increasing its resolution for the first time in many years to 48 megapixels. We are facing one of the best cameras on the market, here is its configuration:
- 48MP main camera with Quad Pixel sensor: 24mm – 48mm (2x telephoto), ƒ/1.78 aperture, single pixel 1.22µm, quad pixel 2.44µm.
- telephoto: 77 mm, x3 optical zoom, ƒ/2.8 aperture, 6-element lens.
- ultra wide angle camera: 13 mm, 120° field of view, ƒ/2.2 aperture, 6-element lens.
We saw a jump. Very good photos in any type of situation, I would even dare to say that in many cases they are the best photos on the market.
The key point of the main camera of the iPhone 14 are the 48-megapixel ProRAW photos. It’s not a format for all users and it takes a bit of time to edit photos, but the level of detail is amazing with the iPhone 14 Pro’s main sensor.
On the other hand, the wide angle has improved in some aspects, but it remains behind other options of the market, it is a point to be improved for future versions. In general, it is a wide angle more than solvent with better detail and dynamic range.
The 3x zoom offers a very good level of detail, an improvement over previous generations. Follow suffering especially in low light conditions, but this is partially solved with night mode. Compared to other options, it is among the best.
There is no rival. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max are the two best smartphones for video recording.
As for the video, we are ahead the best smartphone on the market. Very good detail and very good dynamic range with all cameras. The super stabilized Action mode stands out, there is no smartphone on the market that records with this smooth stabilizing in 2.8K resolution.
Here are some sample photos taken with the iPhone 14 Pro:
