It’s been a while since Samsung showed off as many different devices as it did at last month’s event in Paris. The company not only launched the Apple Watch Ultra along with the Samsung Galaxy Ultra, but also announced another watch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 in two different sizes, and two phones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.
The last member of the presentation was two different headphones, the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 and Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro. Both share a new aesthetic that moves away from previous models, abandoning the button design and opting for a more classic design, with the typical stick protruding from the ear.
We’ve been testing the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro for a few days nowSamsung’s most powerful proposal in the field of personal sound, with a multitude of options and a design halfway between minimalist and futuristic. These are high-end headphones and it shows in every aspect.
A new design
The first thing that catches your eye about the headphones is their charging case. We have two colors, white and gray, and the box contains these shades, but only in its lower part. The cover that opens to give access to the headphones is transparentrecalling the Nothing models. Sure, the size is a little smaller, but not as much as the Google headphones, which are among the most comfortable to wear. At the bottom they have a pairing buttonwhat was missing from previous models.
This model, but not its little brother, It has LEDs that serve both to attract attention and to try to locate them. when we lose them in the living room, or under the bed. The LEDs are customizable and are obviously a way to distinguish these models from those of the competition. They also make a noise when we look for them.
The headphones have ear cushionsand they are quite comfortable. It is striking that even though the housing and the area of the headphones that you put in your ear are rounded, with curves, the stick that sticks out has straight lines. It helps a lot in gesture control, which is not so easy in other headphones.
In addition, it has two tones of color, light blue and orange, to know in which space of the trunk each one fits. We also see these colors in the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and it seems that Samsung wanted to unify the design of its accessories. Finally, it should be noted that They are resistant thanks to IP57 certificationdesigned above all to resist perspiration when we do sports with them.
Great sound
The most important section of any headset is the sound. A good design or good battery life are worthless if we are not satisfied with their sound. But that’s not what’s happening here. The sound of these headphones is one of the most precise and tuned that we have been able to test. in a device which, let us remember, is not intended for professionals.
The Galaxy Buds 3 Pro have a two-way speaker and a dual amplifier with separate bass and treble and a tweeter. All this allows the songs to be heard faithfully, with a separation between instruments and low and high sounds that had not been noticed until now.
And to this is added Samsung technology to isolate us when necessary, with good active noise cancellation and automatic cancellation based on ambient noise thanks to AI to isolate themselves but also to be able to hear alarms or sirens. And artificial intelligence is also used in these headphones, with the inclusion of a sound enhancement system in any application with a codec using AI.
It also features an adaptive equalizer and a 360 audio system which not only allows listening in this way, but also recording the sound in this way if we use a compatible Samsung mobile phone and wear headphones. In addition, the audio interpreter mode can be used automatically without removing the phone, but again, only with Samsung phones.
When it comes to innovative features, Samsung has a certain advantage over other brands known for their sound design, such as Bose or Sony. The fact is that many of these features are only available on the best Samsung phones. This is how the ecosystem is strengthenedbut many potential buyers are also excluded.
Gestures and voices
Samsung is ditching the touch control it had in previous models since it currently only keeps Google in its Pixel Buds and opting for gestures with pressureTo do this, press once or twice on the stick that protrudes from the ear while maintaining the gesture of sliding up and down at the back of the protrusion to control the volume.
All this is configurable through the Galaxy Wearable app, which is the same one that controls Samsung smartwatches and other accessories. It has voice commands, but for this we have to use the Samsung assistant, Bixby. Has usage detectionbut it’s disabled by default, which is weird.
Autonomy
The battery life of these headphones varies, as always, depending on whether they are used with noise cancellation or not, whether you are talking on the phone or listening to music, the volume at which we use them, etc. Again, They have correct average figures, neither spectacular nor worrying..
Without ANC we will have about 7 hours according to the brand on a single charge and with ANC about 5 and a half hours. In addition, they have wireless charging and USB-C charging, although obviously the charger is not included in the box.
Should I buy them?
Samsung has taken a complete turn in the design of these headphones, with new functions, a new design and above all by favoring their use with smartphones of its own brand. The price, 249 dollars, It matches the price of models from other brands, such as Google or Apple. The quality too.
The main target audience for these earbuds are buyers of the brand’s foldable phones, the Galaxy S. These are premium phones, and so are these earbuds. Are there cheaper options? Sure. It’s up to each individual to decide what kind of earbuds they want, but if you go for these, you won’t be disappointed.
