Even though in January we had many presentations and mobile launches, we can almost say that the absolute protagonist has been artificial intelligence. With the new Samsung Galaxy S24 (we already have reviews of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24), there is almost more talk about Galaxy AI than the cell phones themselves.
Some of the possibilities of this AI will reach previous mobile phones and, now, they would have missed the information on its official website. list of artificial intelligence features available on older Samsungs.
If you own a Galaxy S23, you will have Galaxy AI features
Google also wanted to contribute to this avalanche of artificial intelligence with Gemini and the AI options that will reach Pixels and other Android devices throughout the year. But, obviously, if you are a Samsung user, what you look forward to reading is your company news.
During the presentation of the Galaxy S24, there was a lot of talk about artificial intelligence functions. This makes sense considering that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 of the Galaxy S24 Ultra and the Exynos 2400 of the other two models have a very powerful NPU and They were designed with these features in mind.
There are features like the live call translator that work great, but if one has gotten a lot of attention, it’s “Surround to Search.” It’s like an advanced Google search that doesn’t read everything displayed on the screen, but directly what we circle. The search is quite precise and it’s a function that is not bad at all.
Samsung confirmed that some of these features would be available on previous phoneslike the Galaxy S23, the Galaxy Z Fold5 and the Galaxy Z Flip5 and the Galaxy Tab S9, but without specifying what functions these would be.
Now through Michael Rahman and Reddit user FragmentedChicken, it seems we have more clues. And, on Samsung’s UK site, the AI features that will soon be available on the Galaxy S23 have been posted.
This would be expandable to the rest of the phones in the previous list (since they use the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC for Galaxy) and we can see that they are:
- Circle to search – like a Google search, but limited to the desired screen element
- Live translation – real-time two-way call translation
- Notes Wizard – serves to organize or create models, among other things
- Photo assistance – can suggest changes and edit photos
This information can be verified in a Galaxy AI availability comparison that Samsung has published on its UK site with the options already included in the Galaxy S24 and which will arrive “soon” on the Galaxy S23.
If we move to the S22 Ultra in the list or the Galaxy Z Fold4, this “coming soon” notice doesn’t appear. The one that appears on the list is the Galaxy S23 FE.
We don’t know if this is a definitive list, so we cannot say that functions such as creating wallpapers with AI, the summary and translation function or the interpreter are left out on mobile phones other than the Galaxy S24. We’ll have to keep waiting to see if these four functions are the only ones that reach previous phones.
And, regarding the arrival of these functions, this should be done with the One UI 6.1 update of previous generation mobile phones.
