Samsung celebrated the Summer Galaxy Unboxed Last Wednesday in Paris, an event during which the company unveiled the new Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 and the highly anticipated Galaxy Ring, Samsung’s first smart ring.
If we focus on the new smart watches Samsung, there is a feature available in previous generations that is no longer available in the company’s new generation of watches. You’ve probably already heard of PowerShare, a feature available on the latest Samsung phones that allows us to charge our devices (like the Galaxy Watch or Galaxy Buds) wirelessly. place them on the back of the mobile.
With this function we can use our smartphone to charge another device compatible with Qi standardprovided that our mobile phone has at least 30% battery. This is a very useful feature in cases where we do not have a charger on hand, but we will not be able to use it with the new Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra.
Samsung itself has released a statement on its support page explaining that our phone’s charge share feature is not compatible with the Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra. Apparently, the reason for this change has to do with the watch’s sensors.
The company explains that in order to improve the accuracy of the watch compared to previous generations the sensor design has changed on the Galaxy Watch7 and Watch Ultra. With this change, it is possible to evaluate health-related data points that were previously not possible to analyze.
Following this change, Samsung had to change the shape of the glass which is found on the back of the watch. This modification increases the distance between the wireless charging system inside the watch and the charger itself, which prevents the use of the shared charging function.
The change we are talking about will also cause slower loading if we use the old generation charger of the Galaxy Watch. For this reason, the company recommends using the built-in charger with its new watches.
