The term “Galaxy” has become synonymous with “Samsung Android phone” over the years. All the brand’s terminals have relied on this nickname to launch themselves into the market, from the most affordable to the most expensive of all. This is a rule that has been followed since 2009but that could soon change.
A recently released report indicates that the company believes that having the same moniker in its premium line is hindering its growth.
‘Galaxy’ could be replaced in premium terminals
According to the South Korean report we mentioned earlier, Samsung is considering the possibility of create new brands for high-end terminals. It appears they would be based on how Hyundai used Genesis to create its most luxurious vehicles.
The feeling among some Samsung officials is that since all terminals carry the Galaxy moniker, they cannot compete in the same way. In other words, an iPhone is an iPhone and it is understood that it is a high-end product, but a Galaxy can range from a very budget smartphone to a high-end smartphone.
It even seems that Samsung has already would have carried out an internal study to reshape the lineup of their phones, although it is unclear if they are already considering another alternative name, which clearly indicates that it is a high-end device.
This change could be due to brand structural considerations, geopolitics and even the fact that there is a high percentage of young people who prefer the iPhone simply because they consider it more premium compared to the rest of the brands.
It is worth noting that, according to a survey conducted in Samsung’s home country of South Korea, a 64% of people surveyed between 20 and 30 say they use an iPhonea figure which rises in the case of women to 75%.
With this change, Samsung hopes that a much more premium image will be projected just by seeing the name and that the public will identify these models with the highest possible range.
