If the Korean company is able to make its new LPDDR5X RAM memory compatible with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips, it is also able to reduce the performance of thousands of applications on their Galaxy smartphones with a service called Game Optimization Service or GOS. And it is that among these applications we find Netflix, TikTok or the same Microsoft Office.
Netflix, TikTok and many other well-known among these thousands of applications
Via Engadget, and as a source at Android Authority, we know that the GOS service is causing 10,000 apps to underperform in order to save battery on Samsung phones.
What is worrying is that this lack of performance it does not affect benchmarking apps like 3DMark or PCMark, which prevents us from using any of them to verify that our system is working perfectly. In other words, we were never going to find out.
From what we can tell from the source, the A Korean company is already working what happened to put a quick fix; although this is not the first time that neither Samsung nor another company has intentionally caused a reduction in the performance of applications for a substantial improvement in the experience of their terminals. In fact, OnePlus last year was already in the loop for something similar.
This performance limitation has been known thanks to some korean users who published a list of 10,000 affected applications. Which has led to open criticism from thousands of users who don’t understand how the company’s flagship products can reduce the performance of the apps they use every day.
A perfect example of the performance reduction is when the 3DMark benchmarking app is renamed Genshin Impact, which appears on this list. After renaming it, the 3DMark score was cut in half.
We’ll see how it all comes together and how samsung handles this problem it just launched its Galaxy S22 series; which was not affected by this performance drop like the Galaxy S21 Plus.
