Samsung has prepared a lot for 2025, starting with the new Galaxy S25 which can be presented during the first month of the year; but this will only be the beginning, and the company is expected to present several devices that will demonstrate its innovation in the market, such as a Galaxy S25 Special Edition and upcoming foldables.
Another highly anticipated project that has been underway for years is the Samsung augmented reality glasses; Initially, it was thought that they would be presented in 2024, but several delays, including the one affecting the Android version adapted to augmented reality, made this impossible.
Samsung’s glasses would be based on the Snapdragon augmented reality platform presented last January, and would be the result of a collaboration between Samsung, Google and Qualcomm; They would be the main alternative to the Meta Quest 3, a device capable of displaying virtual and augmented reality thanks to high-definition screens and cameras integrated on the exterior.
However, all these delays might be just what the project needed, as the latest leak claims the focus has changed, and now Samsung wants to compete with the likes of Ray-Ban Meta and create screenless smart glasses. In fact, the leak indicates that they would be very similar to Meta’s glasses, to the point that they would use the same processor, a Snapdragon AR1, even though the AR2 already exists.
Samsung may have seen the success of the Ray-Ban Meta and decided that virtual reality glasses weren’t what the market needed right now; Or maybe the price has a lot to do with it, since the new Meta Quest 3S are so cheap that they can make competition difficult. Regardless, the leak published in Korean media outlet Mail Business Newspaper suggests that Samsung will now focus on smart glasses.
Unlike virtual and augmented reality glasses, smart glasses do not have a screen, and rely solely on built-in speakers to communicate with the user. The key here will be in the use Gemini as a voice assistantto perform actions such as recognizing hand gestures, scanning QR codes and even making payments. The Samsung glasses would have a 12 MP camera to recognize the environment and send images to Gemini, which could use them as context for the orders we give it.
Thanks to the use of AI, Samsung’s glasses would be more advanced and better than the Ray-Ban Meta, although it is to be hoped that Meta will not stand still during this period and is also preparing something similar. Samsung glasses would hit the market in the third quarter of 2025according to the leak.
