There’s very little left before the launch of the Galaxy Ring, Samsung’s first smart ring that aims to be the next evolution in wearables after smartwatches. But Samsung won’t be the first to offer a smart ring and will have to fight Oura in court and in the market.
Now a detail has been revealed that can make a big difference to the consumer and may make us opt for the Samsung model: a cargo box. Although it may not seem like much, a charging case that we can take with us can be extremely useful and an essential accessory for our travels.
The box was leaked by @UniverseIce on the social network Weibo, and although the image is low resolution, just realize that Samsung will offer a slightly different charging experience. The charging process itself seems identical to that of the Oura Ring, with a circular structure with contact points which connect to the ring to recharge the internal battery, which can last up to nine consecutive days, according to Samsung.
But the fact that the charger can also be a transport box It’s such a cool detail that Oura’s engineers must regret not having thought of it sooner. It’s a similar concept to wireless earbuds, wearable devices that come with their own charging case, but for some reason we had to wait for Samsung to offer it.
This charging case will be used to both charge the ring and transport it; A rear USB-C connector will allow it to be plugged into a power adapter and can support wireless charging. One detail that has not yet been revealed is whether the crate will have an internal battery, like the wireless earphone box; If that’s the case, we should in theory be able to charge the ring anywhere without having an outlet nearby.
It’s also unclear whether this charging case will be included with the Ring or will need to be purchased separately. There is also the question of ring size; initially, Samsung announced 13 different sizes and confirmed that larger versions would have more battery. You have to imagine that the charging case will be able to adapt to the different measurements of the ring and the different capacities of each battery.
We won’t have to wait long to resolve these issues. The Galaxy Ring should go on sale next August, with an official presentation at Samsung Unpacked in early July.
