We tried the Satechi support for AirPods Max, which is also a MagSafe charging base for your iPhone and has a design that matches the best Apple headphones.
The AirPods Max are wonderful earbuds by design and sound, they’re also wonderful for syncing between devices, for automatically switching connections, and for features like spatial audio. However, almost all of us who have them agree on one unforgivable mistake: Apple offers us headphones that do not turn off (or at least not manually) and that you have to put in an impractical box with a more than questionable design if you want them not to be without a battery when you’re going to use them.
Satechi offers us a very practical solution to this problem, and which also has a fantastic design, with a quality of materials at the level of the most high-end headphones from Apple. A support with which we can store our AirPods Max, even expose them on our desk or our shelf, and at the same time charge them
Using premium materials like chrome-plated steel, with a glossy black base design and a very strong, heavy construction to make it very stable, this AirPods Max stand has two USB-C connections at the base. The first is to connect it to a power outlet using the USB-C to USB-C cable included in the box and a charger of at least 20W which is not included. The second is to connect the USB-C to Lightning cable that lets you charge your AirPods Max whenever you need them while they’re in their holder. Obviously you can connect any USB-C cable and charge any headphones, it’s not limited to AirPods Max.
The base It also has a MagSafe charging disc where you can charge your iPhone comfortably, with the security offered by the MagSafe system, as long as you have an iPhone 12 or 13 in one of its models. If you don’t have this model, you can still use the base like any wireless charger, even with other smartphones from other brands, or with other accessories. For example, I usually use it with my AirPods Pro. The front LED, very discreet and won’t disturb you even in total darkness, will flash very slowly when there is a device charging on the MagSafe disk. The rest of the time, as long as the base is connected to power, it will simply be on.
The holder has a specially designed design to protect the headband of your AirPods. It has a flat design on the top and is also protected by a silicone padding which on the one hand prevents the helmet from slipping, and on the other hand protect the seemingly delicate mesh of the AirPods Max headbandwhich surprises me personally because of its resistance to use and the passage of time.
Satechi has also added an element to the stand which is a godsend for those of us who are obsessed with cables. A small piece of plastic placed strategically on the stand mast lets you wrap the AirPods Max USB-C to Lightning cable. Being such a thin, flexible cable, it’s perfect for not bulking up too much when coiled up, and it’s perfect, almost hidden from anyone’s eyes, yet ready to use when you need it.
Editor’s review
Satechi offers us a support for the AirPdos Max which, simply by design, would already be an almost obligatory purchase accessory. To this must be added a MagSafe charging base for the iPhone and a port to charge your AirPods Max (or any other headphones) while it is placed in its holder. With cleverly considered design elements to ensure everything fits perfectly, this charging base is the perfect complement to Apple’s most premium headphones. You can buy it on Amazon for $89.99 (link).
