For many months, rumors have been circulating that OpenAI could be working on its own search engine, capable of standing up to Google in the field in which the Mountain View company is a leader. Now, Rumors have been confirmed: OpenAI has presented its own search engine.
Her name is GPTSearch and, as expected, it relies on artificial intelligence to offer fast results and with clear and relevant sources, according to its creators. For now SearchGPT is a prototype that is only available to a limited number of people, but it is a very interesting and promising proposal in terms of online searches, especially because the company assures that once ready it will integrate it with ChatGPT.
SearchGPT is OpenAI’s AI search engine that the company will integrate with ChatGPT
OpenAI designed this search engine so that it can access the web and thus find in real time the most relevant and up-to-date information, related to the user’s searches. In fact, they claim that currently, people usually have to make several attempts to find what they are looking for. According to OpenAI, their idea is that SearchGPT can offer quick answers with relevant sources.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has said he believes that “there is still room to improve search from where it is today,” and SearchGPT is his company’s step in that regard. Arguably, This search engine could become a major rival to Google in the field in which it has so far been the absolute leader.
When searching in SearchGPT, users will not only be able to get results based on what they are looking for, but it is also possible ask follow-up questions. It’s a similar idea to how ChatGPT can offer us responses related to the context of our previous interactions.
After performing a search (such as music festivals in August), SearchGPT offers a list of results with a brief description and a link which leads to the source of the information in the answer. The company claims to have developed the search engine in collaboration with different publishers.
On the one hand, in the desktop version we can also find more links from sources related to the answers, so that the user can consult more information and details directly from the source. Last but not least, the search engine also allows search for images and videosamong other things.
Since SearchGPT is currently a prototype and in testing phase, for now It is only available to a small number of users and publishers. In the future, Altman says, they plan to integrate this technology directly into ChatGPT, so we’ll have to wait to test it.
