Even though WhatsApp has always been installed on my phone, I am not one of those users who spends the day sending messages, especially if they are audio messages. However, at certain times, I receive sensitive information from my friends and family that I obviously do not want anyone to see on my computer. Google Pixels.
Meta has updated the messaging app with security measures, and a block is in progress, which will also work on all devices to which our account is linked, thus protecting chats. None of that matters to me: Android 15 has come to the rescue. Someone take my cell phone? You will not have access to WhatsAppand I achieved it without installing anything.
Google’s best idea in recent years
If you have followed the news of the latest versions of Android, such as Android 14, which is saying goodbye shortly, or Android 15, which is in its third beta version – and will be released in the fall -, you probably know this that I have I speak. Google published an excellent privacy feature which will prevent third parties from accessing our applications.
Is called “Secure space”in Xataka Android we talked about it, describing how to activate it. First of all, if you are interested, you will need a device compatible with the beta versions of Android 15. Not only the Google Pixel are testing these preliminary versions; Xiaomi has also announced its participation.
Don’t want to venture out? In the fall it will be released stably for the Google Pixel and in the following weeks/months for the rest of the Android manufacturers. Of course, some builders may, in their customization layers, omit this feature, which I think is great.
Personally, I would recommend waiting, although now that I have this feature I couldn’t go back
First step: configure the “Private Space”. Second: enter WhatsApp
I’m not going to stop to explain in depth how to configure this new feature. In short, it involves using a locking method (fingerprint, face, PIN or password) to open a secret drawer in the application list. When I scroll up to view all my apps, this feature appears in the background.
This requires linking a Google account (your main account works) and in a few seconds the “Private Space” will be fully operational. Within it, we must install WhatsApp from the Play Store
So when a family member, friend or anyone takes my phone, they will never be able to access my WhatsApp account. Well, they can try to copy my fingerprint. All joking aside, this Android 15 addition is also of particular interest to banking apps or others that contain personal data.
Because? Every time I want to log in to WhatsApp, it asks me for my unlock method. Of course, on the negative side, I have to say that it’s annoying not being able to bring the icon to the home screen, even if it was hidden. Fortunately, since I rarely use it in my daily life, I don’t miss it too much.
