After the launch of the Motorola Edge 40 in Europe in May, two foldable phones have just been presented that will give a lot to talk about: the Motorola Razr 40 and the Razr 40 Ultra. Two smartphones each with a different intention, one to democratize the use of folding and the other to anticipate the Galaxy Z Flip 5 which will arrive in summer. The price of the two phones: the Razr 40 at 899 dollars and the Razr 40 Ultra at 1,119 dollars (both with charger in the box).
In one moment of pure brand transformation, Motorola addresses the Spanish public through an emotional connection. It was built on different values and supported by its collaboration with Pantone and its colors to penetrate new segments that it had not yet been able to approach. In connection with this, the packaging of each of these two foldables uses a certain fragrance, the fruit of the collaboration with Firmenich.
EL ESPAÑOL – The Free Android was able to test the two models, two foldable Motorola phones that look out the window of the Spanish market with the aim of undermine Samsung’s goals, that it will have a tough competitor here with two well-designed smartphones in each of its nooks and crannies or possibilities.
Motorola Razr 40
Both foldables feature a hinge system that, in Motorola’s own words, others have copied it since they released it in his first Razr. This system is characterized by a barely visible crease at first sight, and leaving aside that space generated when the device is folded, and which has always been present in the Galaxy Z Flip.
And it is that the Motorola Razr 40 looks a lot like the same Galaxy Z Flip 4 launched last year by Samsung. no longer just for his 1.5″ AMOLED external display with 60Hz refresh ratebut because of this “Flex View” capability which allows you to put from different angles folding to use it as a tripod, according to the needs of the user, for all types of photos; either using the 32 Mpx at the front or the other two at the back: a main 64 Mpx and an ultra wide-angle of 13 Mpx usable for macro photos.
Motorola has also provided this external display with enough functionality to display notifications, calendar, music widgets, or simply being able to reply to messages and thus avoid opening the terminal; and in case it is finally opened, the same application will be displayed on the main screen to continue what was being done.
With this, Motorola kills two birds with one stone, and thus presents a mobile which in the AMOLED main screen reaches 6.9″with FHD+ resolution and 144Hz refresh rate. As you can see, Motorola has put this foldable together in great detail and knowing who it’s aimed at.
Now on to your chip, mount a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256 GB of internal storage with UFS 2.2. Three components that give all the joys to the performance of this new Motorola foldable mobile.
The Motorola Razr 40’s battery is larger than that of its big brother: 4,200mAh with 30W fast charging support
Other important details of the Razr 40 are Bluetooth 5.3, WiFi 6E, IP52 and dimensions that also allow you to see the talent that Motorola has put into this folding: closed it reaches 73.95 x 88.24 x 15.8 mm and open at 73.95 x 170.82 x 7.35 mm; Galaxy Z Flip 4: 71.9 x 84.9 x 15.59 – 17.1mm when opened and folded down to 71.9 x 165.2 x 6.9mm.
Generally speaking, it’s a bit “bigger” reaching 500mAh more in battery capacity; vital information for some foldable for those who normally struggle to maintain independence. And the sensations return once again in front of a “flip” type that brings back many memories of the foldable Samsung.
In short, we are before the first real price reduction proposal to some folding mobiles that have always thrown high due to their benefits. Motorola has a winning horse here, and that’s when it launches a big deal, it can fetch a price close to users of all kinds.
Motorola Razr 40 Ultra
If the little brother will directly lower the price with which a foldable can be purchased, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra comes to anticipate Samsung’s intentions for its next Galaxy Z Flip 5: an external screen that allows even forget to open the folding.
From this you can play YouTube, Netflix or even games to have a miniature smartphone with a screen that is not small at all: 3.6″ pOLED. It also allows access to many Google applications that have been tweaked to make the most of this screen. Spotify has even designed a widget for the Razr 40 Ultra that goes straight to the app when opening the foldable.
These are details that were not present in the Galaxy Z Flip and other brands, and which put this new smartphone in a very good place. And it is that with the Razr 40 Ultra the user will be able to use the screen as if it were their own mobile in itself, despite its 1: 1 aspect ratio (completely square). In this sense, the experience changes a lot compared to that of the competition. You can see the same capabilities of the Razr 40 with “Flex View” and the same hinge system.
The main screen of the Razr 40 Ultra is 6.9″ POLED with FHD+ resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. It also offers HDR10+ support, just like its smaller sibling. In its bowels runs the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip accompanied by 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 or 512 GB of UFS 3.1 internal memory.
It has a dual camera system, which are integrated into the external display. Nail 12MP main with OIS and f/1.5 aperture and a 13MP ultra-wide angle that also works for macro shots. The front camera is on par with the Razr 40 with 32 Mpx, which thanks to “Ready For” can be used as a webcam on the laptop in Google Meet video calls. Again, it reflects the brand that has put all the effort into the details that elevate your experience on every level.
There the battery is a little less than the Razr 40 due to the use of a larger external display, which forced the brand to reduce it to 3,800 mAh with support for 30 W fast charging with the included 35 W TurboPower charger. wireless remains the same, with 5 W. We will have to wait for the analysis to see if it is able to reach the day without problems; if so, that would be another point in favor of Motorola.
Other details are its two stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, spatial sound, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, fingerprint sensor on the side, IP52 and Android 13 as the version that arrives in the two foldable phones in Europe. A “pure” Android that shows the deep link it has in Google and that will continue like this to add more applications to that external display that becomes the bulwark of the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra.
The final sensations for the two foldings they are the best and it only remains to go through the analysis to check some aspects that can even improve your experience in general. Autonomy, another of the battlefronts of foldables in the Spanish market, and the performance of the terminal in multitasking or in games, predictable at first, is what remains to be known. A special launch that the brand has planned in Europe.
